Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this story when he's perched on a building directly above the location where Dusk fell to her 'death.' The police are on the scene and remark about how bad the victim looks, thus they left the mask on as they trace the body. Spider-Man thinks to himself, I have to "find a better way to pay the bills." Spider-Man is not seen again in the story. *Note All four of the 'Slingers #1' variants (Dusk, Prodigy, Ricochet, Hornet) share an identical first and last 16 pages. They differ only in the middle 16 pages which explore the character featured on the cover. Spider-Man makes his appearance in the first 16 pages, so his appearance in all four books is identical, thus identical SMURF for each entry.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this story as he reads a Daily Bugle article showing his former Identity Crisis costumes being worn by other people. These 'heroes' were involved in a train crash, but it was unclear what their role was. Spider-Man decides he's going to investigate and he soon crosses paths with Ricochet (aka Johnny Gallo). Spider-Man spots him atop a bus riding through the city, but Ricochet could sense Spidey's presence so he tossed some of his discs at Spidey and ran. He ends up losing the web-slinger in a subway station. Spidey comments on how fast Ricochet is, even though he admits to himself that he's faster. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

Using a Spider-tracer that Spidey tagged Ricochet with prior, the web-slinger was able to track down Hornet and Ricochet. However, when the two Slingers see Spider-Man, they try to escape, and Hornet takes to the air. Spider-Man shoots a web-line on to his foot and goes flying through the air behind him. The spectacle created by two heroes flying through the sky causes an automobile driver to lose focus and triggers a series of events that sends a giant oil truck out of control and nearly crashing. Hornet sees that from above and with Spider-Man still attached to him, he swoops down to save truck from causing too much havoc. Spider-Man, Hornet and Ricochet all work together to slow and stop the truck. With Spidey still holding the truck, he tells the two Slingers that they better be responsible and have a plan if they're going to wear the mask and be heroes. Ricochet leaves the Spider-tracer with Spidey then takes off with Hornet, leaving Spider-Man still holding the truck (at least they saved the day together). Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

Just then Cassie converts to her nearly amorphous Dusk persona, surprising Spider-Man a bit. She asks why he's following her and he tells her he wants to know where they got the costumes. Dusk doesn't answer but does sense that Spider-Man is good man. When Dusk asks why he needs to know where they got the costumes, Spider-Man says, "I can't tell you" Dusk disappears just after saying, "...that makes two of us with secrets then." Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

Peter Parker makes a brief appearance at the conclusion of this story when he's up in the attic of his home in Queens. He's double-checking to make sure his Identity Crisis costumes are still locked away up there, which they were. Peter then says to himself, "I wore these things for about...two seconds...but still...they've got fan clubs...maybe one day I'll understand the attraction."

Spider-Man makes a single splash-page appearance at the beginning of this issue having just webbed up a criminal who had tried to rob a fur warehouse. After attending the funeral for Karen Page, Peter Parker approaches Matt Murdock and asks if they can get together to talk. Matt reluctantly agrees, and they meet later that night at their usual spot (the Brooklyn Bridge). Garbed now as DD and Spider-Man, Murdock gives his long time friend all the details around the recent suicide of Quentin Beck (aka Mysterio) and all the players involved in the mess (eg Kingpin, Bullseye). After Spider-Man says, "I know what you're going through" (an allusion to Gwen Stacy's death), Daredevil goes on a rant about how nobody is innocent. When its seems like DD is at his nihilistic max, Spidey says, but you saved a little girls life. He then swings off into the city after telling DD he'll be seeing him around. Spider-Man is not seen again in this story.

As Spider-Man is web-swinging through the city, he spots a building on fire off in the distance, so he goes to help. He's greeted by three D-List villains...Badd Axe, Vampiro and Fire-Arms. After mocking the trio, Spidey goes right into attack mode but is caught off-guard by Vampiro who tosses him in the air. Nova arrives and catches the web-slinger, the two then take the fight to the three villains. Once the tables have turned, the D-Listers try to escape by taking a hostage...who ends up being Nova's mom! In the end, the trio are no match for Spidey and Nova, who easily defeat them. Interestingly, during the battle, Badd Axe sliced Nova's uniform, which repaired itself instantly (eerily similar to Spidey's symbiote costume. At the conclusion of the story, Spidey tries to warn Nova about the potential dangers of a symbiote suit. Nova then begins making fun of Spidey for his 'dangerous' enemy being his old underwear. Spidey's response, "Forget I said anything."

Spider-Man makes two brief cameos in this story. First, when he and the other heroes are abducted by the Coterie (an alien race of Game Masters) as potential participants in the Contest of Champions. Sue Richards steps in and takes on the two female titans, but soon after Spider-Man and Human Torch prepare to join the fight as well. Reed Richards stops them both and says Sue needs to handle this on her own, as it is something of a therapy for her to address the folks responsible for hurting her daughter. Spider-Man and Torch reluctantly sit back and cheer Sue on. In the end, Sue has no trouble defeating the villains. Spider-Man and the others congratulate the Invisible Woman on her impressive victory.

A week after Spider-Man battles Doc Ock and the villainous Spider-Woman (in ASM2 6), he finds himself still searching for two villains because he's concerned they'll strike again soon. First, he tries to check in on Mattie Franklin, who he left at the hospital, but soon finds out she's no longer there and had left with Madame Web. Spidey then makes his way to Madame Web, who tells him that Mattie is out with Jessica Drew. After following a lead from Madame Web, Mattie and Jessica are confronted by the evil Spider-Woman. The web-slinger makes his way to their location but becomes a victim of the evil Spider-Woman when she puts him in a trance. Spider-Man is no help for Mattie, who battles the evil Spider-Woman on her own by re-absorbing her powers back from the villainess.
448.200
This story continues directly from previous issue, just after Mattie absorbs all the powers from evil Spider-Woman. Spider-Man chases after Mattie, telling her that he wants to help her deal with her new powers. She's frightened and says she just wants to be left alone, she then slaps Spidey around like a rag doll. Suddenly, four spider-legs protrude from her back (just like the evil Spider-Woman) and then in a panic, Mattie runs from the rooftop where Spider-Man and Jessica Drew were standing. Spider-Man goes after her but Mattie mysteriously disappears. However, she did not actually disappear, she was abducted by Doc Ock! As Spider-Man continues his search for Mattie, he's attacked by Ock and Mattie who appears to be under his control. As the battle rages, Madame Web (and Mattie's internal strength) work to fight against Ock's control. It works, and Spider-Man and Mattie then team up to defeat Doc Ock. At the story's conclusion, Jessica Carpenter passes the mantle of Spider-Woman on to Mattie.

Spider-Man is among the many heroes that take the fight to Galactus. He contributes mostly by catching the falling heroes after Galactus blasts them (sort of a safety web-net!). The heroes are successful at first, forcing Galactus to change his plan from absorbing humanity's life energy directly, to using his technology to siphon the energy while he gathers strength. The heroes decide they need to destroy these siphons. Spider-Man and the Thing work together to destroy one set of the siphons. Galactus is forced yet again, to change his strategy as his hunger grows. Galactus forces the Silver Surfer to return to his role as his herald, in exchange for the Surfer's servitude, Galactus will spare Earth.

Spider-Man makes a single panel cameo alongside the other heroes who battled Galactus. The group looks up to the skies above hoping to catch a final glimpse of the Silver Surfer, who had just sacrificed himself to spare Earth. The heroes rest uneasy, knowing that Earth is safe...for now. Spider-Man is not seen again in this story.

When Peter Parker covers a computer expo at the convention center for the Daily Bugle his Spider-sense alerts him to a giant wave of fear pervading the crowd, which can only mean one thing...Psycho Man! Peter quickly changes into his Spider-Man costume and confronts Psycho Man. The web-slinger is soon joined by Warlock and his two comrades Psimon and Hope. When Psimon manages to bottle up Psycho Man's fear waves (which emanate from Psycho Man's Emotion Simulator box that he carries), Spidey is able to shoot a webline and convert the emotion from fear to hate. This gives the heroes a rage-filled attack that they bring on to Psycho Man. Knowing he's now outmatched, Psycho Man transports all four heroes to his home universe Sub-Atomica (ie, the microverse). There Psycho Man can use his Psychic Crippler aboard his ship to launch a more intense fear emotion. The intense wave causes Hope to lose control and begin destroying Pyscho Man's ship, so he changes the emotion from fear to doubt. The heroes easily overcome this emotion since they all live that one on a daily basis. They are able to defeat Psycho Man aboard his ship, and, fed up with the group, Psycho Man transports them back home. When they arrive back at the convention center they're greet by Kitty Pryde...but things go south quickly as a group of flying robot minions belonging to the villain Mainspring attacks them!
450.450
Continuing the action from the prior issue, Spider-Man, Warlock, Hope, Psimon and Kitty Pryde battle the robot minions. And, in short time, easily defeat them. The convention center however, was damaged significantly and the crowd blames the heroes (because they could not see Psycho Man), Spider-Man then welcomes them to the "wacky world of super-heroics!" With the robots defeated, Spider-Man heads out on his way and says goodbye to the other heroes. He grabs his camera and then takes off. Spider-Man is not seen again in this story.

This is the conclusion of "The Eighth Day" saga which ran through Iron Man (Vol. 2) #22, Thor (Vol. 2) #17, Iron Man (Vol. 2) #23 and Peter Parker Spider-Man (Vol. 2) #11. At this point, Thor, Iron Man, Professor X and Spider-Man are all prisoners of the gods known as the Exemplars, mounted on the exterior surface of their God Machine. This machine is deep beneath Manhattan, however the Exemplars transport it to the North Pole in order to begin their war on Earth. Professor uses his telepathy to reach out to his step brother Cain Marko (aka Juggernaut), who is amongst the Exemplars. Xavier helps to push Juggernaut to be at conflict with the Exemplars plan, a notion Juggernaut was already leaning toward, however Bedlam (one of the Exemplars) forcing Xavier out of Juggernaut's head. The nudge worked though, and Juggernaut begins to attack the Exemplars, damaging the God Machine enough to begin freeing the heroes. When Spider-Man tries to attack one of the Exemplars, he's easily defeated. In the end, it was only Juggernaut who could truly battle these Exemplars and he manages to destroy their God Machine and send the essences of the eight Exemplars "scattering to the far corners of the Earth." Spider-Man, freezing cold in the North Pole, is ready to go home.

The convert themselves into looking like Spider-Man and call out Sandman's name. This distraction confuses Marko and allows the rea Spider-Man to gain the upper hand and knock out his long-time nemesis. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story. *Note, this can actually work despite the fact that Spider-Man had fought Sandman as one of the Sinister Six in ASM2 12 and PPSM2 12. At the conclusion of the "Return of the Sinister Six!", Sandman and the other villains were not detained by the authorities...so Sandy was still on the loose.

The battle is rough, Spidey gets knocked around a lot and eventually of the heroes except Captain America are taken prisoner. Cap is able to appeal to the human side of the Exemplars (yes, they were all once human) and they release the rest of the Avengers from the energy shield imprisonment. The Exemplars leave Earth and leave the Avengers with nothing but the media left behind. Spider-Man is just happy the media is not after him.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when he catches up to Johnny Storm as the wedding between Sue Richards and Dr. Doom approaches. Spider-Man tries to get a read on Johnny as to how he feels about his sister's marriage. Johnny opens up a bit and the two talk for some time. Johnny says that he trusts his sister and Spidey says he'll stand by him if he wants to stop the ceremony. Johnny says if we do that, the whole world is Doomed. This is another scene displaying how close Spider-Man and Johnny Storm are as friends. *Note this story must take place after ASM2 13 and PPSM 13 because Peter's inner thoughts (and an editor's note) demonstrate that this takes place after MJ is presumed dead in a plane crash.

Maxwell's answer, "Nothing." When the two confront Charlotte on a rooftop, the battle is even, Spider-Man forces Mattie to retreat with him as he figures out what Maxwell meant by 'nothing.' When confront the evil Spider-Woman for a final time, Madame Web clears Mattie and Spider-Man's mind, and the psychic vampire that Charlotte had become thus had nothing to feed off of...she then passes out. Thus, she was defeated by nothing. Interestingly, very similar to the mindwipe of the infamous 'Brand New Day', Madame Web uses her powers to perform a 'psychic surgery' and make Mattie (and Charlotte) both forget Spider-Man is Peter Parker. Mattie is sad about that, but Spider-Man insisted it be done. *Note this story takes place not long after ASM2 14.

Spider-Man saves a few firefighters from the explosion, he's joined by Daredevil who is doing the same thing. In all the chaos, Spider-Man and Daredevil struggle to figure exactly what caused the explosions and the ensuing earthquakes. The firefighters tell the heroes that the FF ran into the building before the explosion. Things go from bad to worse as Spider-Man and DD watch the sun begin to turn black. [Pg. 33 panel 2] Spider-Man's confrontation with the two green aliens is caught on tape. Cap and the other Avengers watch that recorded footage (amongst other footage) at their HQ. Spider-Man makes another appearance earlier in this story but it appears to be more of a vision of a dystopian future (predicted by Ronan the Accuser) after all of the universe's alien-undesirables are dumped on to Earth. Ronan predicts, they'll either kill us or we'll kill them, either way the combat would rage for years. So this appears to be more of a prediction, than a real scene.

This is Spider-Man's first contact with Sentry once he re-emerged back on the scene. The Sentry was aware of Spider-Man's civilian identity, and he had once offered Peter an opportunity to photograph him as the Sentry. That photo had won Peter a great deal of accolades as a photographer. However, Peter has no recollection of that event any longer and he has no idea who the Sentry is. When the Sentry tries to jog Spidey's memory, the web-slinger feels like his leg is being pulled. He leaves the Sentry thinking he's a crazy person, and that someone like Mysterio is behind this.

Following up on the Sentry's advice to check on old misnumbered issues of Time and Clarion magazines, Peter goes to check the archives at the Daily Bugle and discovers that certain magazines are missing. Issue 743 of Clarion magazine was seemingly never printed and when he asks Joe Robertson, his response is, "it's not allowed to." That sentence loosens a thought process in Peter's brain as he suddenly realizes, "The Sentry...I think I remember."

When Wolverine goes subterranean to follow up on a series of murders, he crosses paths with the web-slinger who's was 'going where the action is' to the same location. The two heroes and a police officer named Lieutenant Tara Curson find themselves deep below ground in the sewers tracking large dark (non-speaking) monsters. Spider-Man had set up a web-net to catch one of them, which Wolverine happened to rip through when the two heroes first came in contact with each other. Spider-Man and Wolverine then work together to defeat on of these monsters. Unable to decide what to do next, all three of them decide to follow the path deeper into the sewers. Eventually the meet the source of these monsters...the Mole Man! Who's stands waiting in his underground lair to attack the Spider-Man, Wolverine and Curson!

Spider-Man, Wolverine and Curson are attacked by Mole Man and his minions, the fight rages for a bit, but Mole Man suddenly calls off his troops. He did not want any more of his monsters engaged in battle, so he calls them back. He tells the heroes that he is not responsible for the murders that they have been following up upon, he blames another group of people that live slightly higher up in the sewer systems. Spider-Man and Wolverine are hesitant to trust Mole Man, but ultimately they do, and they follow his directions to the real murderers. Before long, the trio of Spidey, Wolverine and Curson are confronted by another group of underground dwellers. Their leader, Carver, explains that they are Morlocks and that one of the white beasts, named Fugue, was responsible for the recent killings. As Morlocks, Wolverine challenge Carver to a duel for control of his tribe. Carver accepts and the two begin fighting. Fugue interrupts the duel and attacks Wolverine, the process the giant white beast is tossed down in to a deep trench (there are giant splits in the ground). Spidey shoots a web-line to catch Fugue, suddenly an earthquake causes Wolverine and Carver to go over the cliff as well. Spidey's web-line breaks and Carver catches it. Wolverine, who is holding Carver's hand, is now holding up the weight of all three of them. Carver's grip is lost and he begins to fall, Spider-Man shoots another web-line to catch Carver and Fugue, but it doesn't make it. The two Morlocks fall deep into the pit below. Mole Man arrives and tells them they haven't much time, they must leave. Wolverine resolves that this is the most resolution they are going to get on this string of murders...and he's ready to move on.

"September 11" *Note MCP list has this entry out of numerical order, and earlier in the Spider-Man chronology. It's worth noting that ASM2 35 runs directly into ASM2 37, so ASM2 36 doesn't really fit in between those issues. Where the issue fits best then, becomes the question. It's placement at this point in the chronology can work and given the fact that the bulk of that story focuses on a 'real life' event, it is in a weird way removed from typical continuity. For the sake of simplicity, it is kept at the same position MCP has placed it.

Spidey tries to make the Torch feel better by saying that they have been lost before (ie, Onslaught, Secret Wars) and they've always made their way home. Johnny is concerned this is the time they don't come back and he's worried about their kids, he then asks Spidey, "Have you ever lost anyone close to you? Like a family member?" This story begins with Spider-Man, Hulk and Wolverine being suddenly transported from their individual locations to Vancouver, BC by some strange dark energy. Spider-Man claimed to be tracking the Green Goblin when he was transported. Without a plan, Hulk grabs the two heroes and they leap into the nexus of the dark energy, which transports them to a distortion field (the space between Earth's dimension and the Negative Zone). There they find Captain America, Thing, Thor, Silver Surfer and Storm all trapped in the dark energy, but before they know it they start getting pulled in to the trap as well. Luckily, Spidey had shot a web-line to pull them back to Vancouver before they were trapped. Back in Canada, the heroes begin attacking the dark tendrils that seem to be manipulating them. This leads them into confrontation with Darkforce, who unveils the mastermind behind these dark energy attacks...Blastaar, the tyrannical ruler of the Negative Zone! The three heroes follow Darkforce through one of the dark energy portals, which transports them to the CN Tower in Toronto. They're met by more Darkforce beings, after defeating them, Spidey realizes what Blastaar has been doing. He deduces that Blastaar is using various transmitters to open up these portals, so the trio of heroes uses one of the transmitters to track the main transmitter. They travel back to the original distortion field and free the Silver Surfer and he uses his cosmic energy to destroy one of the transmitters. This leads to all the other heroes being freed and they begin their assault on Blastaar's forces, destroying all his transmitters along the way. The group then confronts Blastaar directly in Newfoundland and they defeat him and his hordes of Darkforces by destroying the main transmitter in a giant explosion. The heroes are victorious! *Note this entry has been moved from its original MCP placement due to Spider-Man saying he was "hot on the trail of the Green Goblin" at the beginning of the story. It's difficult to place exactly what Spider-Man is referring to here, because that reference is a bit odd. However, if we want to be clever, the opening sequence in the "Marvel Europa Graphic Novel Spider-Man in Venice: The Secret of the Glass" story opens with Spider-Man webbing up the Green Goblin. Perhaps after the events of "Wolverine: Son of Canada", Spider-Man goes back and tracks down the Goblin. The Goblin in the "Secret of the Glass" story does not appear to be Norman Osborn, perhaps its just an imposter. So Spider-Man may have been hot on the trail of an imposter Green Goblin at the beginning of this promotional comic.

After an advertising swap with a holiday company lands J. Jonah Jameson an all-inclusive trip to Venice that he cannot use (he's too busy), he passes the trip on to Peter. He tells him to bring back a great photo feature, and that he'll deduct the cost from his holiday bonus. Peter leaves for Venice and during a boat ride befriends a professor Leone Grimani. Leone takes Peter to a museum and shows him the 16th century alchemist named Count Alvise Gianus, who was encased in a molten glass tomb, in suspended animation. Peter touches the Count's tomb and feels a weird vibration. That night, the Count somehow escapes his long-time entrapment, wreaking havoc throughout Venice. Peter feels his touch triggered it, it was no coincidence. As Spider-Man, Peter tracks down the count to his old laboratory on Murano Island and during their battle, the Count is once again entombed in molten glass. Spider-Man then returns the Count to the Monumental Cemetery on St. Michael's Island. *Note This story begins with Spider-Man webbing up the Green Goblin. It's an odd scene and feels nothing like a Peter/Norman interaction, perhaps it was a Green Goblin imposter?

Later, Spider-Man catches up with the real Daredevil as Murdock explains that Hillman (between his book deal, etc) is going to cash in on DD's crime fighting career. [Pg. 5 panels 3 - 5] This flashback sequence depicts an occasion when MJ was furious at Peter because he was gone for over 4 days as Spider-Man. She was worried that he was dead, or dying or that he may have even left her. *Note This sequence was moved drastically compared to the MCP's placement of this flashback. They placed this just after the One More Day storyline in which Peter and MJ were no longer together. It does not fit there, but where it should go is a bit arbitrary. This listing gets a 'BTS' designation because the scene features the future Spider-Man and in the background is the contemporary Spider-Man of ASM2 #42 who is knocking on Dr. Strange's door.

[Pg. 19 panel 6 - Pg. 20 panel 2] After blacking out for a few mins, Spider-Man wakes up and listens in on the conversation his past-self is having with Dr. Strange from ASM2 #42. *Note, this entry is concomitant with ASM2 #42 (1 - 4:1), thus the identical SMURF code.
[Pg. 1 - Page 4 panel 1] "A Strange Turn of Events" Spider-Man is at the Sanctum Sanctorum, explaining the Shade's devious tactics to Dr. Strange. *Note Future Spider-Man from the "One More Day" storyline is on the other side of the door, Dr. Strange steps out to go speak with him and tells the Spider-Man of ASM2 #42 to stay where he is.

[Pg. 20 panels 3 - 5] Future Spider-Man (from FNSM #24) wants to warn his past self about Aunt May's shooting, but he cannot because he loses physical form when he reaches beyond Dr. Strange's spell. *Note this entry gets a 'BTS' designation because the contemporary Spider-Man of ASM2 #42 is off-panel.

After giant castle appears high above the New York City skyline, Spider-Man hitches a ride on a stealth bomber to go investigate. After landing on the castle grounds, Spider-Man realizes that this is Asgard and some more perusing he finds Thor and overhears him talking to others. Spider-Man hears Thor's plans to end droughts, feed the poor and remove tyrants (which all sounds good) except that he wants to do so forcefully even if he doesn't get the consent from the people of Earth. Spider-Man hops out into the middle of the discussion and discourages Thor from doing this, human's must choose their own path he suggests. When Thor tries to use the great power/great responsibility argument, Spider-Man retorts that he must use that power wisely. Thor suddenly flies out of the chamber because nuclear warheads are headed toward his castle. Spider-Man thinks he's a goner, but Thor saves everyone using the Odinforce to contain the blast. Thor tells Spider-Man that they came in peace, yet humans shot missiles at him. He leaves after telling Spider-Man to spread the word that they seek only to enlighten and help the world.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance battling Doctor Octopus outside the Daily Bugle. Many bystanders witness the battle, including rookie reporter Katherine Farrell.

Due to the Punisher's ever-growing kill-count and his recent bouts the each of them individually, Daredevil, Spider-Man and Wolverine decide it is time to take the Punisher down. Daredevil leads the group and insists they do it his way, and thus no killing. All three agree to work together. At the conclusion of the story, the three heroes confront the Punisher outside a diner. Castle oddly remarks that he is in the mood for a cheeseburger.
491.620
After a bit of bewilderment, Daredevil, Spider-Man and Wolverine follow Castle in to the diner so he can get his cheeseburger. He tells them that since he's going to jail (ie, because the three heroes are going to take him in), that at least they can let him have a cheeseburger before he's stuck with prison food. While inside the diner, the Punisher nudges Wolverine (saying he has small-man syndrome), then catches the X-Man off-guard. As Wolverine prepares to kill Castle, Murdock and Spider-Man are force to restrain Wolverine. In the ensuing melee, Castle escapes. With the Punisher in the wind, the three sit down and enjoy a cheeseburger together.
491.640
Still reeling from the embarrassing escape the three let happen, Spider-Man, Wolverine and Daredevil struggle to understand Castle's psychology. He knew the heroes would not allow anyone to be injured and that enabled his escape, they're convinced he thinks they're naive and that Castle doesn't want to have to kill them. Soon after, whilst out tracking Castle, Daredevil hears a scream coming from a kitchen 50 blocks away. When the trio arrives on the scene they find a man gutted, with a note on him that says "suckers." Before they know it a rocket launcher missile is headed their way, and Wolverine gets a direct hit. Spider-Man attempts to pursue the Punisher but soon finds himself trapped by land mines. Luckily, DD is able to reach Castle and bring him to his knees.
491.660
The Punisher attacks DD and the two go flying out of window, Castle then flips Daredevil down two floors into the fire escape, dislocating both of his shoulders. Castle then leaves after telling them to leave him alone. Daredevil then catches up with Spidey (who is still stuck in one place because of the triggered mines). Murdock tells him there's probably nothing in the mines or they're not wired to any explosive. DD is convinced that Castle doesn't want to hurt them, thus no explosive, he tells Spider-Man to just move his foot and walk away. Spider-Man (very) reluctantly does so, and DD's hunch paid off, Spidey was free. Castle later calls Murdock at his law office and tells him to meet him (with the others) at a pier in Red Hook. Later that evening, the three heroes arrive to confront Castle, but he quickly jumps down a sewer tunnel. Spidey and the others follow but when the jump in they get a surpise...the Hulk is there and he's angry!! *Note For what it's worth, Spider-Man's Spider-sense should have alerted him to the fact that there was no danger in those mines...
491.680
The rampaging Hulk knocks Daredevil and Wolverine out of the picture, leaving him one on one Spider-Man. The web-slinger tries to reason with the green goliath but it is to no avail. Trapped under debris, Daredevil finds himself confronted by Castle. The Punisher explains his manner of de-escalating the Hulk (ie, make the bomb he put inside him go off) and also tells DD to call this off once and for all. Before he leaves, Castle detonates the bomb inside Hulk, saving him from killing Spidey. At that point, Spider-Man was already unconscious. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

[Pgs. 4 - 6] This flashback sequence depicts a battle between Spider-Man and the Vulture. After removing the Vulture's wings, Spider-Man has a good chance at detaining him. When Toomes runs towards a cop, who has a gun, the cop does not fire at Toomes. A puzzled Spider-Man asks the cop why he didn't stop him, his answer, "That's your job." Peter notes that that is the same thing he told the security guard when he didn't stop the burglar who would eventually kill his uncle. This sequence gives Spider-Man nightmares for the ensuing six months because he feels trapped in a perpetual cycle of battles with his enemies, with all of it falling on his shoulders. *Note This flashback takes place "six months ago" relative to the contemporary timeline of this story.

Whilst web-swinging through the city, Spider-Man witnesses a large alien about to beat up a smaller one. Jokingly, Spider-Man says is this some sort of 'whack job psycho-sexual thing' or is someone in danger. Acting on instinct Spider-Man web-lassos' the smaller alien and absconds with him. The large alien gives chase. This is witnessed by the new Captain Marvel (aka Genis) and his companion, a serial killer named Karl Coven. When the large alien uses his whip to snare Spider-Man, Captain Marvel intervenes, knocks them all out and suddenly they are all in a make-shift courtroom (with Captain Marvel presiding as the judge). Spider-Man criticizes Captain Marvel's alliance with Coven and goes on a great power and great responsibility (which Captain Marvel seems to appreciate). Then Spidey goes on a rant about about slavery and how it is wrong on every level. Then the alien, whom Spider-Man had saved, interrupts and says he was not a slave...what Spider-Man witnessed was a sexual act gone out of control. Spider-Man puts his face in his palms in embarrassment. The psychopath Coven then kills the larger alien. Captain Marvel says, "We're adjourned!"

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the conclusion of this story after monster composed of gravel and concrete (and member of the villainous Eurotrash!) attempts to abduct pop sensation Henrietta Hunter (who had just come back from the dead). Spider-Man's help with rescuing Henrietta Hunter is not received very well by the members of X-Statix. After the public opinion on the Fantastic Four tanks (due to their recent battle with US forces in order to stop Dr. Doom), Johnny Storm seeks out Spider-Man to get advice on how to live with public ire. They meet at their usual spot (the Statue of Liberty) and after Spidey's initial dumbfoundedness at the nature of the Torch's request, Homeland Security arrives forcing them both off the Statue of Liberty. They agree to meet the next day at a water park. Whilst there, Spider-Man shouts out to the public that he's with the Human Torch. The crowd starts giving Johnny some guff, but things get out of control when Morrie Bench (aka Hydro-Man) sees Spidey and attacks. During the melee, Johnny clothes get so soaked that he can't 'flame on.' So he removes his clothes, but his underwear are washed away in the process. Suddenly, mid-battle, Johnny Storm is naked in a public pool.

Spider-Man uses his webbing to cover up the naked Johnny Storm as the two continue to battle Hydro-Man at the water park. They struggle to keep Bench contained, as the villain slips into the sewage drain. After he knocks the two heroes around a bit more, Johnny realizes they can use Grimm's trenchcoat (which Johnny had given Spidey in the last issue to stay incognito) to trap Hydro-Man, because it is made from unstable molecules. The plan works and they trap him inside the coat. However, during the ruckus, the one of the park mascots, Squiddy, was trapped on a water slide and starts falling toward the ground. The Torch saves her and becomes and instant crowd hero. Spider-Man, on the other hand, is booed by the crowd for standing around doing nothing...order has been restored to the universe!

Nick Fury recruits Peter Parker to a part of a secret initiative, stopping a villainess in Latveria named Lucia von Bardas (although Peter is not aware of von Bardas at this point). Within a few days, Peter travels with Matt Murdock, Logan, Steve Rogers, Black Widow and Nick Fury to Latveria. *Note this flashback takes place one year before the contemporary portion of this mini series. Also, MCP list has this entry as a 'FB'. However, this entire book takes place in that 'one year ago' timeline, there is no 'flashback' within the story at all (unlike other books in this mini series), which is why this is the only entry for this book in the chronology. Thus, the 'FB' tag has been removed, it simply sits at this point in the chronology.

[Pgs. 1 - 3] This flashback sequence depicts Spider-Man, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Captain America, Daredevil and Black Widow fighting von Bardas forces in Latveria.

[Pg. 15 - Page 22 panel 1] This flashback sequence depicts Nick Fury (and his entourage of heroes, including Spider-Man) confronting von Bardas and warning her cease her supply of tech to villains across the globe. Lucia von Bardas turns down the request, and Fury counters with Daisy Johnson...using the full force of her might to obliterate von Bardas and her forces. In the aftermath, all the heroes (including Spider-Man) express extreme disapproval and disgust with Fury's tactics. Fury then uses brain-washing technology to wipe out the memories of those events from these heroes. Thus over the course of the next year or so, the memories of that day start to trickle back. *Note This is listed as a 'FB-FB' since the contemporary portion of this story is Daisy Johnson in the custody of the federal government, but much of this story is told from the events which occurred 'six hours earlier.'

Nevertheless keeping it here for consistency sake with the MCP list.
508.700
[Pg. 6 panels 3 - 6] Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo attending a baseball game in which Captain America throws out the first pitch. *Note this scene takes place at an undisclosed time in the past relative to the contemporary portion of this story.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when he battles the Vulture at the Port Authority. Terri Kidder, a reporter for the Daily Bugle, is nearly hit in the ruckus and, unfortunately for her, she doesn't get the story either because the scene is crawling with reporters. Soon after, in the hunt for a story, Terri is killed by Norman Osborn when she investigates a lead on missing persons at Oscorp.
508.900
After Daredevil publicly defeats the Kingpin, removes his mask and declares himself the Kingpin of Hell's Kitchen, crime in the area plummets. Mostly because DD request is clean up or get out. Sometime later, Peter Parker, alongside Luke Cage, Stephen Strange and Reed Richards approach Murdock to tell him he's gone too far. Murdock defends his actions, saying that it worked, the other heroes push back and say that it simply moved the crime to another area. Murdock then suggest that they all do the same thing in their respective areas, but they decline. The heroes part with an uneasy truce and agree to disagree on tactics.
509.000
Peter Parker makes a brief appearance at the conclusion of this story when Ben Urich calls him on the phone. Urich is convinced Osborn killed Terri Kidder, so he calls Peter to talk about it. The story ends at that point. *Note This entry gets a 'VO' designation because Peter does not appear on panel, only his dialogue in the brief phone conversation with Urich is featured in-story.
509.100
Spider-Man meets Ben Urich on a rooftop where they cover a handful of topics given the recent murder of Terri Kidder. They cover everything from how Ben Urich knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man to Norman Osborn's role as the Green Goblin. Urich asks Peter why he doesn't take Norman down then, Peter says the only way to truly prove he's the Green Goblin is to out himself as Spider-Man which he won't do. Spider-Man leaves soon after, prepared to do whatever it takes to bring Terri Kidder's killer to justice. *Note For those keeping score, Spider-Man had already told Ben Urich that Norman Osborn was the Green Goblin back in the Spider-Man: Legacy of Evil one-shot. Urich also wrote a whole book outting Norman Osborn as the Green Goblin (the aptly named Legacy of Evil), the presumption there is that Urich had pretty solid evidence to make that claim. Those two points make this scene a real potential for discontinuity, it is not clear how someone like Urich would need reminding (again) about the identity of the Green Goblin.
509.200
After the Green Goblin detonates a ton of pumpkin bombs in order to prevent the authorities from arresting him, the Goblin makes his escape from Oscorp. Jessica Jones attacks the Goblin on his way out and he nearly kills her, Spider-Man arrives in the last second to catch her mid-air. That distraction allows the Goblin to make his getaway. A short time later, and after the Daily Bugle publicly outs Norman Osborn as the Green Goblin, Norman turns himself over to the authorities. His lawyer, outside the police station, claims Osborn is innocent and mentions that he hasn't been charged with anything at this point. Luke Cage attacks Norman outside the police station, and Norman responds by (partially) garbing up as the Green Goblin. Spider-Man tries to reason with Osborn and get him to stop this madness, but Luke Cage just cleans his clock and Osborn is handed over to the authorities. *Note This portion of the chronology has been changed from the original MCP list because of two major points (the original MCP list embeds this story within Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1, where the Goblin is defeated by Spider-Man and sent to jail). However, the important point in this story is that Osborn voluntarily turns himself over to the authorities (claiming innocence of course) in The Pulse #5 (that is not the case in Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1, Spider-Man defeats the Goblin and leaves him webbed up for the police. The second key point comes from The All-New Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A-Z Update #1, which claims that after the events of The Pulse #5, that Osborn escapes en route to prison. And it is at that point that the events of Marvel Knights Spider-Man #1 begin. So this chronology now aligns with that handbook.

[Pgs. 1 - 15] "Down Among the Dead Men" (Part 1). After escaping en route to prison, Norman Osborn (as the Green Goblin) takes a group of people in a church hostage and demands that Spider-Man kill himself publicly or he'll kill the hostages. Spider-Man doesn't comply and soon, after a brutal brawl, he leaves the Green Goblin webbed up for the authorities. As the trial proceeds, it is clear Spider-Man has a pretty good case, but when word of Scorpion's attack reaches the courthouse, Spider-Man and She-Hulk go out to stop him. She-Hulk ultimately saves the day, not with her fists though, rather she reasons with Scorpion that JJJ being taken for millions of dollars is worse than killing him. Scorpion is almost convinced, but then Spider-Man knocks him out when his guard is down. Later, the Daily Bugle calls Peter Parker in as a co-defendant...causing Peter to change his tune about the case. He ultimately settles the case if he (Peter) and JJJ hand out public apologies for a day...dressed as chickens.

[Pg. 9] Spider-Man makes a single page/panel appearance in a flashback sequence (technically within a flashback) in which Luke Cage recalls Daredevil recruiting he, Spider-Man and Iron Fist to fight the Yakuza. It does not take much convincing from DD to get Spidey and the others to help out against these gangsters. This flashback sequence leads directly in the events of Daredevil (Vol. 2) #59.

Spider-Man and the other heroes meet Wonder Man's new lady friend, Ladyfair. Suffice to say that they think she's a pretty lady. *Note Wonder Man states that this party took place back before the Superhuman Registration Act and the ensuing Civil War. So it can fit here at this point in the chronology.

After hearing lots of rumors about the new Spider-Girl on the scene, Spider-Man tracks down Arana to find out what is fact and what is fiction about this new hero. After some playful banter, Arana tells Spider-Man that she's resigned from being a hero and explained her connection to the Great Weaver (something Spider-Man came across in ASM2 42). Spidey's advice to the young hero is that he's realized over the years that it is important to keep fighting even if it puts your family in danger. Because, he says, "with this power must also come great responsibility." He then adds that she should follow her destiny, and when Arana says that she was born to be a hunter, Spidey asks, "and what does a hunter do?" Arana knows now she should strike first against her enemies, like a hunter. Spider-Man and Arana then part ways, she's thankful for the advice she received.

Moreover, Tony Stark appeared publicly drunk when addressing the UN. The Avengers are now in Code White, and they'll need help. Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo at the conclusion of this story, he's alongside numerous other super heroes who are gathered at the now destroyed Avengers Mansion. Captain America and Hawkeye are addressing the assembled crowd of heroes.

Picking up from the end of the prior story, in which the heroes gathered at the remnants of the Avengers Mansion, Spidey and the others are told to leave the premises by Nick Fury. Fury reminds them that this site is an active crime scene, so they need to gather somewhere else. Before they disperse, however, they are attacked by a Kree army, who invades from their spaceships above the mansion. Spider-Man and the others battle the alien army. At the story's conclusion, still mid-battle, Dr. Strange arrives and tells Captain America that "magics are being abused" and that is behind the nature of these attacks.

Dr. Strange employs a cloaking spell around the heroes, to protect them and give them privacy, he then suggests someone with intense powers is creating this chaos. Spider-Man is present when Captain America suggests it could be Wanda Maximoff. Spider-Man provides some poorly timed (and received) comic relief, but other than that he's pretty much in the background. Wanda then arrives on the scene and causes more trouble before passing out in Cap's arms. Magneto arrives and reclaims his daughter.
