SMURF : Joining the New Avengers to One More Day

 Chronology: Comics Index by Date

These are the Spider-Man Unified Reading Flow codes for the SMURF era beginning with 516.120.

This era features Spider-Man's time as a member of the New Avengers, as he, MJ and Aunt May eventually end up living in Avenger's Tower. This era also features the Superhuman Civil War and ends just as Peter and MJ trade the love of their marriage to Mephisto in order to spare Aunt May's life. Thus, triggering Spider-Man's "Brand New Day."

516.120
"Breakout!" (Part 1)
516.122
[Pgs. 1 - 4] "Breakout!" (Part 2) Spider-Man hitches a ride on the Captain America-piloted blacks ops SHIELD copter. When they arrive at the Raft (which had been destroyed by Electro who was hired to infiltrate the facility), Spider-Man's Spider-sense is on full alert as they are confronted by countless inmates. Avoiding a blast from Count Nefaria, Spider-Man dives directly into the pool of inmates. The criminals gang up on Spidey, and Jigsaw snaps Spidey's left arm. Spider-Man is also unmasked in the process.
516.124
[Pgs. 1 - 8] "Spider-Man: Breakout #1" After Jigsaw breaks Spider-Man's arm, the other villains all fight for a piece of Spider-Man.
516.126
[Pgs. 5 - 18] Struggling to escape the Raft, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Spider-Woman and the others are attacked by Hydro-Man. He slows them up enough for the other villains to catch up and once again resume their attack.
516.128
[Pg. 9] Spider-Man and Cap continue to battle against the onslaught of villains.
516.130
[Pgs. 19 - 20] Spider-Man, now with his arm in web-sling, alongside Captain America, Spider-Woman, Matt Murdock and Luke Cage fight the horde of Raft inmates...for their lives!
516.132
[Pg. 10 panel 1] Ironclad (one of the U-Foes) tosses Captain America clear out of the facility (he's later caught by Iron Man, which is shown in New Avengers #2)
516.134
[Pgs. 21 - 22] Conclusion to "Breakout!" (Part 2) Purple Man mind-controls Luke Cage and tells him to kill his hero friends and himself...
516.136
"Breakout!" (Part 3)
516.138
[Pgs. 1 - 4] "Breakout" (Part 4) Spider-Man and the other New Avengers gather at Stark Tower, their new headquarters. Jessica Drew, now garbed in her Spider-Woman costume, joins the group.
516.140
[Pg. 17 panel 2 - End of page 18] This retcon scene expands the dialogue around Jessica Drew resuming the role (and garb!) of Spider-Woman. Jessica joins the group and when a story about Wanda Maximoff is brought up, Jessica asks about her. The gets awkward because clearly Jessica did not remember what the role the Scarlet Witch played in the decimation of the original Avengers team. *Note this retcon scene is shared in the context of the Secret Invasion storyline, in which Jessica Drew is revealed to be a Skrull imposter.
516.142
[Pgs. 5 - 22] Conclusion to "Breakout" (Part 4) The New Avengers begin the process of catching all the escaped villains. They start with Max Dillon (aka Electro) and they snare him in front of the restaurant where his girlfriend works. Meanwhile, Jessica Drew interrogates the still imprisoned inmates and asks who is it that Electro sprung from the Raft. The group says Karl Lykos in unison. Soon after, the New Avengers are in the Savage Land.
516.144
"Breakout!" (Part 5)
516.146
"Breakout!" (Part 6)
516.150
[Pgs. 6 - 8] This flashback sequence (which takes one week before the contemporary portion of the story) depicts Spider-Man in the background whilst Iron Man tries to convince Wolverine to join the New Avengers aboard a SHIELD Helicarrier.
516.164
[Pg. 10 panel 2 - End of page 23] Conclusion to "Spider-Man Breakout #1" Spider-Man makes his way home to MJ who helps him bandage his wounds. She inquires about his 'new' Avengers friends and if he's officially a member of the team now, Peter punts on the question. Soon after, he goes out web-slinging and after a giant explosion draws his attention, he finds himself in between a feud of the U-Foes and Crossfire (and his crew). The story concludes with Spider-Man confronting the Controller and Mandrill from Crossfire's crew.
516.166
[Pgs. 1 - 20] "Spider-Man: Breakout #2" Spider-Man battles the Controller, the U-Foes and other villains. He then joins Cap and Iron Man at the Raft to continue tracking down escaped villains. Spider-Man visits the Owl to get a lead on a supposedly dead Raft administrator named Rozalyn Backus. She, according to a complaint logged in the Raft computer system, may be the key to understanding the beef between the U-Foes and Crossfire.
516.168
[Pg. 10 panel 2] This single panel flashback depicts the first place Spider-Man checked based off of the Owl's lead. Its a posh, and exquisitely kept apartment...unfortunately Rozalyn does not live there because nobody lives there.
516.170
[Pgs. 21 - 22] Conclusion to "Spider-Man: Breakout #2" Spidey arrives outside Rozalyn's apartment complex.

[Pgs. 16 - 18] Continued "Skin Deep" (Part 1) Charlie Weiderman interviews with Tony Stark, as he shops his idea for soldiers coated with an impenetrable armor. Meanwhile, Spider-Man is out fighting crime and enjoying time with MJ and Aunt May. *Note An unspecified period of time passes during the section, but it is reasonable to believe that this could be a span of months (allowing all the above adventures to exist within this break in the story. This portion must take place after New Avengers #3 because an editor's note reminds the reader that Tony Stark knows Peter Parker is Spider-Man because of NA 3.

When Spider-Man first joined the New Avengers, he was a prankster in Stark Tower, goofing off seemingly whenever he is there. Iron Man and Captain America use Doctor Strange to create a spell which enables Spider-Man to truly experience all of the Avengers battles from the past. This gives Spider-Man a new (and better!) perspective. They do this because it is Memorial Day, a day to remember the fallen, and they want Spider-Man to know that he truly is an Avenger now. And that that comes with great power, but also great responsibility. Spider-Man is thankful for the advice and perspective that Iron Man and Cap provide. *Note This story takes place shortly after the formation of the New Avengers.

516.210
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when a conversation between Captain America and Hercules ends with Herc knocking out Cap and taking his shield. Spider-Man, Wolverine and Iron Man attempt to counter Herc's attack, but he bulls right through them (shield first!) and leaves the Avengers HQ with Cap's shield. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.
516.212
Spider-Man makes a single panel appearance at the conclusion of this story, celebrating the end of the production of Hercules' Twelve Labors (all this was filmed as part of a reality show). Spider-Man is celebrating with Iron Man, Mole Man and others whom Hercules visited performing his Twelve Labors.
516.214
"Without a Trace"
516.220
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the beginning of the story alongside Luke Cage and Captain America at the Avengers Tower. Cap is reading a newspaper with a cover story featuring the Young Avenger's defeat of the Shocker. Spidey, Cap and Luke discuss the emergence of the Young Avengers, Cap thinks they're too young (some under 16 years old) to avenging, and he plans to put a stop to it. Spidey is not so convinced it is a bad thing. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.
516.240
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo alongside the other New Avengers when they confront the Young Avengers who had just defeated Hyde. Less concerned about Hyde, the New Avengers (specifically Cap) have their attention on Patriot, who had been taking Mutant Growth Hormone and was getting out of control. Cap suggests he stands down, but Patriot wants to fight him. Ultimately Wiccan uses a spell on Patriot in order to avoid any conflict with the New Avengers. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.
516.280
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the conclusion of this story when he and the other New Avengers intervene in a squabble between the Young Avengers and the Kree Army. Both the Kree (and the Skrulls!) claim Hulkling as their own and thus their property. The New Avengers arrive to quell the situation, but it gets out of hand when the crossfire from Kree/Skrull lasers hits the Patriot in the stomach! The story concludes with an all-out battle starting.
516.290
Spider-Man and the New Avengers fight alongside the Young Avengers battling both the Skrulls and the Kree simultaneously. Its a tough battle with no end in sight, however, Hulkling surrenders himself and the battle ceases. They reach an agreement that Hulkling will leave half of the year with the Skrulls and half with Kree (with periodic visits to Earth).

Spider-Man, Luke Cage and Wolverine are the only three Avengers 'on duty' in Avengers Tower. Wolverine goes out on a beer run and a mysterious villain Emperor None attacks the Tower. He's disappointed that this universe does not have traditional Avengers (just Spider-Man and Luke Cage) and he begins to warp reality in a way that drives Luke and Spidey mad (Luke starts seeing an imaginary daughter and Spider-Man starts to sprout spider legs from his back). Wolverine returns from the beer run and stabs the Emperor in the back with his claws, the villain soon fades away (like all cosmic villains do, according to Wolverine). *Note This story must take place before Jessica Jones gives birth to her daughter, Luke Cage references that she is still pregnant (with mood swings!) in this story.

[Pgs. 1 - 17] "House of M #1" Six months after Wanda Maximoff's nervous breakdown, which led to the death of some of her follow Avengers, the heroes of the Marvel Universe continue to struggle with what to do with her. The Avengers meet with the X-Men to figure something out, the Avengers want to save her, some of the X-Men are for killing her. Spider-Man is a part of these conversations. Ultimately they decide to go to Genosha and talk with her to see what Wanda wants.
524.655
[Pg. 21] This retcon scene shows the Avengers and X-Men just as they are departing for Genosha. The scene depicts Yellowjacket and Spider-Woman (two covert Skrulls). Spider-Woman (who is Skrull Queen Veranke) tells Yellowjacket to kill the Scarlet Witch.
524.660
[Pgs. 18 - 24] In Genosha, the heroes cannot locate Wanda. No technology, mysticism or otherwise can track her down in Genosha. Spider-Man's Spider-sense starts buzzing and suddenly the other heroes around him disappear and/or freeze. For Spider-Man, everything goes white...House of M has begun. Peter then wakes to the sound of a child crying and someone saying it's your turn...it's his wife...Gwen Stacy!
524.663
[Pg. 5 panels 3 - 5] This flashback sequence depicts Spider-Man's recollection of his fond memories with his child and Gwen Stacy whilst within the "House of M" world.

[Pg. 1 - Page 13 panel 6] When Peter Parker is walking down the street accompanied by his wife Gwen, his child Richard and his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, a group of super heroes gather to confront him. Before the confused Parker can get out much of a sentence, mutant Layla Miller uses his powers to give Peter back all of his memories from before the House of M took over. Peter falls to ground in confusion and angst, he doesn't know what to think. His family is confused as well. Soon after, in tears, Peter has a conversation with Wolverine who reinforces the unfortunate truth...that this is all a lie.
524.695
[Pg. 4 panel 5] Peter Parker makes a single panel non-speaking cameo, featured on a TV show called Super Powers! (which provides news and views on super heroes in the House of M universe). The panel depicts Peter making out with MJ (who is "Hollywood's hottest sensation") on a park bench, obviously this was news for this TV show. *Note It is possible that after finding out that everything was fake in the House of M universe, Peter sought out MJ to tell her the same thing. One bit of discontinuity though, Peter has a shaved head in most depictions at this point in House of M, this character is depicted with hair.
524.700
[Pg. 13 panel 7 - End of page 21] After Layla Miller gives all the super heroes their original memories back, they gather to figure out a way to stop the Scarlet Witch and Magneto.
524.705
Peter Parker makes a single panel non-speaking cameo at the conclusion of the story, as he, Wolverine and the other heroes prepare to tell Captain America the truth about the world he's living in.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the conclusion of the story when he confronts Runaways Victor Mancha and Gertrude Yorke. Spider-Man, like the other New Avengers, is looking for Cloak (who was accused of hurting his long time partner Dagger), the Runaways were also looking for Cloak.
524.730
After some small talk with Gert and Victor, Spider-Man suggests they go get some sushi to get out of the freezing cold. Spider-Man offers his help and advice to the two, he wants them to know that they're on the same side of the Avengers, but just because you're on the same side, doesn't mean you see eye to eye. Gert and Vic are not very trusting of Spidey at first, but they start to warm up. They even have a cerebral chat about power and responsibility. However, before they can make any progress on where Cloak may be hiding, Nico Minoru (another Runaway) comes in to the sushi restaurant and threatens Spider-Man (thinking he's taken Gert and Vic prisoner). She then puts a sleeping spell on the web-slinger, neutralizing him.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when Johnny Storm visits Avengers Tower, surprised to see Spider-Man a member of the team. Johnny tells Captain America and Spider-Man that Dr. Doom may be looking to steal something from Reed...and that Avengers Tower may be a place it could be (because Doom can't in to Avengers Tower...easily). Minutes later, Spider-Man and Cap are called away on emergency Avengers business. *Note This entry was moved up in the chronology from the MCP placement for two main reasons. At this point, Spider-Man has not been an Avenger for very long and he's not wearing his Iron Spider costume. MCP had the entry during that period.
524.760
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo at the beginning of this story alongside the other New Avengers. Their team, the New Avengers, is on TV (CNN to be specific) and the reporting suggests they once again saved the world. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.
524.765
Peter Parker struggles to adapt to his life post-House of M, in which he was married with a child to Gwen Stacy. He cannot tell MJ what he experienced during House of M, so the distance between them is growing. He goes out on town web-slinging in order to clear his head. While out, Spider-Man comes across a mutant who is being attacked by some thugs, he steps in to help and then calls an ambulance for him. After helping, he spots Pietro Maximoff (aka Quicksilver), who has become a pariah for his role in the events of House of M. Spidey webs him and berates Pietro for what he did to his life. Spidey expresses the pain he's felt after 'losing his son' and that it has done irreparable damage to him. Pietro feels as if there is no way to redeem himself for what he did. So he jumps from the rooftop after Spider-Man calls him a 'waste of space' and agrees that he (Pietro) has no reason to live. Spider-Man is not fast enough to save him. With Pietro's unconscious body on the ground, his estranged wife (Crystal, the inhuman) arrives asks Spider-Man what he did her husband.
524.770
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this story which picks up directly following the previous issue. Pietro survived the fall, but he is not doing well. Pietro uses what little strength he has to tell Crystal that Spider-Man didn't do this, that he jumped by himself. Spider-Man says he should go to a hospital, but Crystal knows that will not help. She and Lockjaw take Pietro with him, knowing that the hospitals on Earth won't fix him. They disappear. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo when two writers, Eddie and Adam, pitch an idea for a superhero comic to Nicole, who works at the Marvel Comics office. They're pitching an idea for a character called Masked Marvel, but Nicole warns them that the characters that Marvel published are based on 'real' heroes like Spider-Man and Daredevil. *Note This story breaks down the 'Fourth Wall' a bit as it doubles down on the notion that Marvel Comics and super heroes exist in the same universe (ours!). In that way, it is similar to Amazing Spider-Man Annual #37 story 2.
524.797
Continuing to break down the 'Fourth Wall,' writers Eddie and Adam continue to flesh out their character the Masked Marvel. And after advice from Nicole (an editor) suggests that by issue #2 they'll need a big-name guest star, both creators settle on Spider-Man. Soon after, the Masked Marvel is hanging out in Avengers Tower waiting to see Spider-Man. Initially, Spider-Man does not come around, but Wolverine does. In the middle of their conversation, blood-sucking aliens arrive and attack New York City. Spider-Man arrives to save the two heroes from a laser blast originating from one of the aliens. The Masked Marvel then leaves Spider-Man and Wolverine behind to go attack the mother ship. Soon after, Eddie and Adam find out that Marvel is not picking up the Masked Marvel series and that it will be relegated to two 8-page back-up stories.

After defeating the 'Sinister Six' (Doc Ock, Venom, Boomerang, Hydro Man, and Sandman who actually managed to escape), Spider-Man is approached by Iron Man who gives him a new assignment. He goes to Springfield with Wolverine to track down a super-powered woman named Guiding Light. When the two heroes approach, the Sinister Six re-emerge and attack, hoping to recruit Guiding Light to their team. Spider-Man, Wolverine, who were joined by Cap and Iron Man, defeat the Sinister Six. Guiding Light was doused with water by Hydro-Man and to her delight, she loses her powers. Iron Man gives her the Avengers Priority card, if she experiences trouble again in the future. *Note This story is printed in numerous Marvel books, including Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane #11 story 2.

As the Sentry speeds off to the next problem, Spider-Man asks him to wait so he can talk to him (about a double date). Sentry speeds off and does not stop.
524.830
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo, alongside the other New Avengers, the narration from the Sentry in this sequence suggests that the Sentry is working endlessly as a superhero to avoid his personal problems.
524.835
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance alongside the other New Avengers, who are discussion with Emma Frost about the recent actions of Wolverine. The New Avengers are concerned about his behavior (specifically the attack on the Japanese Prime Minister) but Emma Frost warns things are not as they seem. She also tells them that his memories have returned.
524.840
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo as he and the other New Avengers depart the SHIELD Headquarters after their conversation with Emma Frost. SHIELD Agent Dugan (aka Dum Dum Dugan) was also a part of that conversation, he assures the New Avengers that he will keep them posted if anything changes in regards to Wolverine in Japan. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

When Peter Parker goes out on assignment with reporter Ken Ellis for the Daily Bugle, he gets an unfortunate surprise from Deadpool. The Merc with a Mouth was following up on a lead that led him to Ken Ellis, and after tracking his car to the Queensboro Bridge, Deadpool hops on the roof of the car, grabs Peter Parker and tosses him over the bridge. He does that so he can talk to Ellis (and claim shotgun!), he was not aware that Peter is Spider-Man. Peter shoots a webline to catch himself before hitting the water, masks up, then puts a giant web-net to stop Ellis' vehicle. Spider-Man and Deadpool then fight it out for a while before calling a truce after Ellis claims Deadpool is working with him (much to the surprise of Spider-Man and Deadpool). Spider-Man then "unwebs Peter Parker from the side of the bridge" allowing Ken Ellis to finish his story about government waste.

As Jessica Jones is going into labor, ready to deliver her child, the hospital administrator refuses to let her deliver the baby in the hospital. Since Jessica is super-powered, the hospital administrator suggests that she could give birth to something dangerous. Thus, she demands that Jessica be removed from the hospital. Spider-Man and the other New Avengers arrive to take her from the hospital. They take her to the Sanctum Sanctorum and have Doctor Strange deliver the baby. The story ends as she prepares to give birth.
524.895
Spider-Man makes a handful of brief cameos throughout this story as Jessica Jones delivers her baby girl.
524.900
Spider-Man and the New Avengers follow an emergency distress signal from Sandy Hook, New Jersey and are soon confronted by Red Ronin. But Red Ronin was a trojan horse, for an attack by the New Thunderbolts. Suddenly the New Avengers find themselves under attack by the Songbird and the other Thunderbolts, who use a divide and conquer strategy against the heroes. Captain America and the New Avengers are dumbfounded at this behavior by the Thunderbolts (who are supposed to be fellow heroes).
524.905
The battle between the New Thunderbolts and the New Avengers continues, as Spider-Man and the other Avengers are taking a beating from Songbird's team. They continue to question the reason for the Thunderbolt's attack. None of the Thunderbolts answer the question. Eventually the Thunderbolts overpower the heroes, leaving them beaten on the ground. They tell the Avengers that this was a warning and that they can do it again if ordered to. It turns out that the US Government blackmailed the Thunderbolts into doing this attack. The government was concerned that the New Avengers we're becoming an uncontrollable entity and thus needed to be sent a message.
524.910
Spider-Man makes a single panel appearance when he's interviewed by the Thing regarding his interactions with Moleman. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story. *Note Original MCP list placed this entry far earlier in the chronology than M/HOL 2005/2. There is no reason those two stories could not occur in the same 'holiday season', thus they've been placed adjacent to one another.

Spider-Man and MJ attend a Christmas party at the Sanctum Sanctorum, in which all of the New Avengers attend. The party goes south however when a young woman inadvertently does Ultron's bidding and creates an Ultron robot disguised as Santa Claus that attacks the Avengers party. Spider-Man and Yellowjacket are able to destroy the robot by feeding it a rigged-cookie that can release an electromagnetic pulse to shut it off. With Ultron defeated, the heroes uncover details about Virgie's past and eventually invite her to attend the party with them.
525.100
[Pg. 2 panel 4] Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking flashback cameo alongside the other New Avengers. They appear to be attending some type of rally or celebration, in which they are the featured guests.
525.200
[Pg. 1 - Page 6 panel 2] Spider-Man makes a brief appearance, saving a man who attempted to commit suicide (by jumping from atop a building). Spidey saves him with a web-net and continues web-slinging through the city. The man's life starts to rebound, his ex takes him back after seeing the news coverage, they have a child. Life was good, thanks to Spidey. *Note This portion of the story takes place roughly a year before the contemporary portion of the story. In that part of the story, the man returns to that rooftop to thank Spidey. However, when he slips off the edge accidentally, he's met by the 'Dark' Spider-Man (aka Mac Gargan from the Dark Avengers). Gargan does not save him, he lets him fall to his death.

[Pg. 3 panel 1] This is a single panel flashback to Peter Parker introducing himself to his new chemistry class. One of his students, Jordan, is the focus for the contemporary portion of this story which addresses his reaction to Peter Parker make a public announcement that he is Spider-Man during Civil War.

[Pg. 16 panel 4 - Pg. 23 panel 4] Spider-Man attends another baseball game with Captain America and Wolverine. This time, they're watching the game on TV. It is not clear how much time passes between both flashback sequences in which Spider-Man is featured in this story. However, this entry has been moved from where MCP has placed it, because Spider-Man is wearing his blue and red costume. The MCP list places it at a time when Spider-Man was wearing the Iron Spider costume.
529.120
Peter Parker makes a single panel non-speaking cameo in the courtroom in Matt Murdock's trial (for his crimes as the vigilante Daredevil). Peter is not seen again in the story. *Note This entry has been moved up in the chronology because it must precede Spider-Man's appearances in White Tiger #1-3. Those have also been moved up because Spider-Man is not in his Iron Spider costume.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when Angela Del Toro is trying out potential costumes as she takes on the mantle as the new White Tiger. Spider-Man pops in out of nowhere at Potter costume shop, and tells Angela that he'd like the white costume she just tried on for his wife. After Angela and the other ladies give Spidey some guff (one lady assumed he was gay), Spider-Man leaves as quickly as he arrives. *Note Spider-Man is featured in only one single page of this story. Also, this entry was moved up from its original placement in the MCP Chronology because he's wearing his traditional blue/red costume. MCP list placed this story during a time period where Spider-Man was wearing the Iron Spider costume.
529.180
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance in this story when White Tiger finds him mid-conversation with Daredevil on the rooftop of a building. Spider-Man brought Krispy Kreme donuts along for the convo and he told the 'Daredevil' that if Matt finds out what he's doing, Matt's "totally going to kick your ass." It will later be revealed that this is Danny Rand in the guise of Daredevil. Spider-Man leaves as soon as White Tiger arrives. *Note Spider-Man is featured in only one single page of this story. Also, this entry was moved up from its original placement in the MCP Chronology because he's wearing his traditional blue/red costume. MCP list placed this story during a time period where Spider-Man was wearing the Iron Spider costume.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when he rescues White Tiger (Angela Del Toro) and Daredevil (Danny Rand) from an attack by faux-police officers. After rescuing the two, Spider-Man swings off on his way, but not before commenting on Angela's poor sense of humor and the fact that she should be using her family NYPD connections what is going on with these 'police officers.' Spider-Man is not see again in the story. *Note Spider-Man is featured in only one single page of this story. Also, this entry was moved up from its original placement in the MCP Chronology because he's wearing his traditional blue/red costume. MCP list placed this story during a time period where Spider-Man was wearing the Iron Spider costume.

Spider-Man makes a brief appearance alongside fellow New Avenger as the two squabble over some inane topic. They both defer to Tony Stark's opinion but he is too wrapped up in other drama to answer them. They cannot quite grab his attention. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

[Pgs. 21 - 28] Following the "death" of Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four #587, Spider-Man visits the remaining members of the team at the Baxter Building. Collectively mourning the loss of the Torch, each remaining member of the team shares a memory that connects Spider-Man and the Human Torch. The third of these memories is shared by Reed Richards, who reminds Peter of the time the three of them (Peter, Johnny, Reed) went to outer space. When their spacecraft stops functioning (due to the proximity of green star), Johnny Storm uses his powers to absorb any solar flares in order to protect Reed and Peter as they fix the space ship. At the end of the story, Spider-Man admits to Reed (in the absence of Johnny) that Johnny is a pretty bright guy. *Note There is no clear place to put this entry, however, the placement MCP used was during Spider-Man's Iron Spider costume-wearing time. He's wearing the red and blue costume in this story, so it has been moved up slightly in order to precede the Iron Spider.
529.280
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this story as he's chasing the Black Cat as they jump from rooftop to rooftop. Spidey comes across extremely flirtatious as he continually tries to get a kiss from Felicia, who spends the whole time avoiding his advances. As Felicia continues to evade Spider-Man, she also manages to insult the web-slinger the whole time. Just as the Black Cat is making her final escape, Spider-Man says that he wants her to stay out of trouble. Felicia responds, "We always want what we can't have." She takes off and Spider-Man is not seen again in the story. *Note Spider-Man comes off incredibly unfaithful to MJ in this sequence, it reads almost as if it is non-continuity. It is difficult to find the appropriate place for this entry because of Spider-Man's behavior.

Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Black Widow help the new White Tiger (aka Angela Del Toro) take down the Chaeyi organization. This shadow criminal enterprise infiltrates countries in order to take them down, to do so they needed immigration documents. Those documents were being provided to them by Yakuza leader, Sano Orii. Sano had killed Angela's partner when she was in the FBI. Spider-Man and the other heroes make quick work of these criminals and soon hand them over to the authorities, with the evidence to prove their guilt.

[Pg. 13 panel 3 - Pg. 17 panel 3] Spider-Man spots a suspicious looking black and green cloaked individual going into an elementary school, so he follows him. Spidey witnesses the cloaked person digging for an amulet alongside Dracula. When Spider-Man confronts the mysterious person, it bites him, turning Spider-Man into a vampire! *Note This portion of the story takes place 'a few months back' relative to the contemporary portion of the story. Spider-Man is wearing his black costume in the contemporary and his red/blue costume in the flashback. This entry was moved up the chronology compared to MCP's placement, which had it placed in the middle of Spider-Man's unmasking during Civil War when he was wearing the Iron Spider costume. This sequence does not fit at all in the MCP's placement.
529.400
Continuing directly from the flashback sequence in Blade (Vol. 5) #10, a vampiric Spider-Man attacks Blade. The vampire hunter shoots Spider-Man in his knee-caps to neutralize him (and spare him from getting a stake to the heart). SHIELD agents eventually take Spider-Man away in a stretcher, Blade rationalizes that the Spidey's radioactive blood will help him fight off the vampiric conversion. *Note This entry was moved up the chronology compared to MCP's placement, which had it placed in the middle of Spider-Man's unmasking during Civil War when he was wearing the Iron Spider costume. This sequence does not fit at all in the MCP's placement.
529.410
[Pg. 19 panels 2 - 3] Spider-Man makes a brief appearance when he is interviewed about his affiliation with the Fantastic Four. Spider-Man describes the first time they met back in Amazing Spider-Man #1. This is part of the Fantastic Four celebrating the anniversary of their formation as a team. *Note This entry was moved further down in the chronology from where MCP had originally placed it. This story is a part of the Civil War epilogue and Spidey's brief appearance is clearly during a less tense time than the middle of the Superhuman Civil War.
529.420
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo, web-slinging past the Daily Bugle on Christmas Eve. It is not clear why MCP placed this story so far back in the chronology, there is no indication for doing so from the story itself. In the M/HOL 2007 (Story 1), Peter Parker is at the Daily Bugle on Christmas Eve, its entirely possible this cameo precedes his arrival and thus this story connects directly into the 2007 story. Thus, this story has been moved back adjacent to story one from this book. As a side note, a Spider-Man from another universe makes a cameo as well.
529.460
After failing to get a New Year's advance from J. Jonah Jameson, Peter Parker races home with a giant cake for his Aunt May's Christmas Party. There's no cabs, so he has to web-swing home and en route he comes across Wolverine who is battling a deranged department store Santa Claus who has taken control of a Sentinel and is walking through Manhattan. It is dubbed, the Santa-nel. Eventually Spider-Man and Wolverine get the upper hand but when Wolverine attempts to disembowel the Santa inside, Spider-Man throws his cake (the one he had been carefully carrying the whole time) at Logan to stop him. Wolverine later thanks Spidey for not letting him get carried away and kill the guy. In exchange, he bakes Spider-Man a cake to make up the lost one. That photo makes its way to the cover of the Daily Bugle! *Note This entry may need to be moved from its original MCP placement, it is difficult to confirm, but Aunt May appears to be living in Queens again at this point and not Avenger's Tower.

However, on page 22, Peter watches the news and learns of the events of Stamford, Ct (ie, When Nitro destroys a building killing innocent civilians and triggering the Superhuman Civil War). Peter Parker and MJ make a brief appearance while eating breakfast at the Avengers Tower. As Peter is reading the newspaper, he comments on how Ben Grimm is supposed to be an 'average joe' not someone running around dating supermodels and actresses. This is meant to be an ironic point about Peter, who is also an 'average joe,' yet he is currently married to a supermodel, and living in a luxury suite with a butler serving him breakfast. Peter is not seen again in the story. *Note there's also a depiction of Spider-Man's head (alongside many other heroes) on the first page of the book.

Spider-Man helps Ben Grimm take down the Sandman and the Trapster. Ben was not very receptive to Spider-Man's arrival initially, but the web-slinger proves useful in helping to quickly defeat the two villains. After turning Sandman into solidified concrete, Spider-Man and the Thing struggle to diffuse the bombs the villains laid throughout the area. Ultimately, Ben Grimm falls on top of the bombs, to save the nearby civilians. After the authorities round up the two villains, Spider-Man and Grimm chat for brief second. Grimm pays Spider-Man $20 to get rid of that god-awful costume and put back on the classic blue and red. Spidey complies and web-swings away shortly after.

531.580
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this story battling Apocalypse alongside the other New Avengers. Apocalypse threatened to wipe out all of humanity if they did not cull 90% of their population. Obviously, the New Avengers were going to respond to that threat. *Note Technically Spider-Man appears in a single panel in this story, but the other New Avengers (Cap, Iron Man) make multiple appearances throughout the story. Spider-Man, alongside numerous other super heroes, attends Ben Grimm's poker night party at his home. In the end, Grimm loses the poker match to the GLA's Flatman (who's straight flush beats Grimm's four of a kind). *Note This story takes place at a time when Spider-Man wore the Iron Spider costume, but due to an 'inside joke' between he and Grimm (from Thing V2 #6), Spider-Man did not wear the costume. Spider-Man even references that event when he's talking to Namor.
531.650
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance alongside the other New Avengers as they battle Graviton. Spidey attempts to save Cap when Graviton begins crushing him using his powers. Using his Iron Spider 'spider-legs' and his own strength, Spider-Man tries to absorb the pressure from Graviton. Spidey's ribs are broken in the process and he and Cap nearly die, however, Iron Man swoops in and takes out Graviton. Cap gets Spidey to a medic.
531.655
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo alongside the New Avengers and the Fantastic Four. They have all arrived in London as part of a Global Peace Summit in which Karim Mahwash Najeeb, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, will give a speech. Spider-Man is not seen again in this story.
531.660
As Karim Mahwash Najeeb delivers is speech, Spider-Man stands behind him alongside the New Avengers and the Fantastic Four. When Iron Man (who is now a wanted fugitive for his role in the death of Ho Yinsen's executioners and others via collateral damage) arrives on the scene, Spidey and the other heroes spring into action to detain Iron Man. Stark tries to explain to the others what happened (his tech was compromised and he has no recollection of the events). Stark barely manages to escape his former allies. Spider-Man makes two brief cameos in this story.
531.665
Spider-Man makes a few brief non-speaking cameos as he and the other New Avengers take a brutal beating from the argonauts, drone Iron Man suits. The argonauts were triggered by the mastermind who had framed Stark, Dr. Ho Yinsen's 16 year old son.

This goes a long way to guide him on what he should do because up to that point, he was very much on the fence about this and leaning toward not unmasking (to protect his family). *Note Page 18 of this story occurs "four days later" from Page 17.
532.600
[Pgs. 1 - 8] Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo as he swings by the Daily Bugle. Inside the Daily Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson is coming to grips with the reality that everything his newspaper has requested over the years (ie, the end of superhero secret identities) is coming to fruition. [Pgs. 13 - 23] Conclusion to "The War at Home" The confrontation between Iron Man's team and Cap's team leads to a one on one fight between Spider-Man Cap. Their fight draws even and Cap manages to escape. Peter continues to wonder whether or not he's chosen the right side in this fight.
535.400
[Pg. 7 - Page 8 panel 5] Spider-Man rejoins Iron Man's team as they regroup after their fight. The team realizes that the newest Ant-Man worked to save a civilian during their fight.
535.500
[Pgs. 1 - 2] "The War at Home" (Part 4) After returning home, Peter struggles to fall asleep. Instead he watches the news and hears the reporting that Stark Enterprises and Fantastic Four Incorporated have received various lucrative contracts from the government.
535.550
After going rogue on the pro-Registration camp, Peter goes to Ben Urich's home to help the reporter follow up on a fairly disturbing lead. Urich's undisclosed source claims that Stark has been manipulating this entire Civil War for financial gain (ie, benefitting through insider trading from actions he's controlling). Peter hacks Stark International to gain access to his internal revenue reports from Urich's home computer. Peter and Ben look through the Stark revenue data and they can see that Stark has been making a great deal of money recently, and there is an especially large spike in income two days before the Registration Act is passed. Ben doesn't believe this is possible (despite what his lead says) but Peter thinks otherwise, especially since he and Tony had their falling out.
535.600
[Pg. 3 - Page 4 panel 1] Cont. "The War at Home" (Part 4) Peter confronts Tony Stark about the money he's making from the various government contracts he's receiving. Peter then requests that Tony take him to the place where the detained super heroes are being kept.
535.650
[Pg. 18 panels 1 - 3] Peter and Tony arrive at the Fantastic Four Headquarters and observe that there's been some structural damage to the building (from Sue Storm's argument with Reed). Soon after, they meet up with Reed Richards.
535.700
[Pg. 4 panel 2 - End of page 21] Conclusion to "The War at Home" (Part 4) Peter and Tony tour the Negative Zone where the prisoners are being held. They debate the merits of such detention. As they're leaving the FF HQ, Tony tells Peter he wants him to go to LA and work on the 50 State Initiative project. When Peter returns to Avengers Tower, he tries to sneak Aunt May and MJ out of there so they could make their escape. Iron Man attacks Spider-Man before he can leave.
535.750
[Pgs. 1 - 7] Tony tries one last time rationalize with Peter in order to get him to remain on the pro-registration side. Peter does not budge, and continues to try to escape Avengers Tower. He eventually manages to escape Stark.
535.800
[Pgs. 1 - 6] "The War at Home" (Part 5) After Spider-Man barely manages to escape Avengers Tower, Iron Man follows Spidey to the streets below. After berating Spider-Man for the trust he had placed in him, Tony and Peter go at it in a no-holds-barred fight. When Iron Man uses Spider-Man's Iron Spider suit against him, Peter is down and out. Peter manages to escape down the sewer after firing webbing into Tony's face. *Note Page 7 of this story occurs "some time later" and an editor's note references Civil War #5 and #6 to fill in the gap between pages 6 and 7.
535.850
[Pgs. 9 - 11] As Spider-Man makes his way through the sewers, he's attacked by Jack O'Lantern and the Jester. The two villains use a series of explosive devices to do some serious damage to the web-slinger.
535.900
[Pg. 25 panel 6 - Pg. 27 panel 1] A battle damaged Spider-Man continues to take shots from the Jester and Jack O'Lantern. The Punisher witnesses this and prepares to defend the web-slinger. The Punisher fires a kill-shot right through the Jack O'Lantern's pumpkin head.
535.925
[Pg. 12] Peter looks on in horror and shock as the two villains are murdered right before his eyes by the Punisher.
535.950
[Pgs. 28 - 29] After telling Spider-Man that he can't kill him (because he's out of ammo), the Punisher carries Spider-Man back to Captain America's secret headquarters.
535.975
[Pgs. 15 - 17] The Punisher arrives at Cap's secret headquarters with a bloody and beaten Spider-Man, Cap and his team scramble to get a medic ready to take care of the web-slinger.
536.000
[Pg. 32] Cap and the Punisher stand over the medical table where Spider-Man is lying unconscious.
536.020
[Pg. 1 - Page 10 panel 3] Shortly after his arrival at Cap's headquarters, Spider-Man is back on the mend, wearing his traditional costume and prepared to work with Cap and his team on the anti-registration side. Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking appearance as a member of Captain America's allies in the Civil War. In this sequence, after Cap beats up the Punisher he explains that he does not have the luxury of losing any of his allies. Cap's frustration with Castle is rooted in the vigilante's 'shoot first ask questions later' style. However, he gives Castle a chance to be a member of his team. Luke Cage expresses anger at this move, citing that Cap should not be allying himself with killers like Frank Castle.
536.030
[Pgs. 8 - 10] Spider-Man is welcomed onto Cap's team by Luke Cage and the other heroes. Cap wants Spider-Man to sit out a round (because he's still recovering), but Spidey refuses, saying he wants to make up for all the bad moves he's made lately. After the Punisher murders two Cap's allies (who also happen to be villains), Captain America attacks the Punisher and begins beating him up. Spider-Man witnesses this play out.
536.040
[Pg. 22] Cap continues his attack on Castle, and the Punisher does not fight back...instead he encourages Cap to "punish" him.
536.050
[Pgs. 11 - 12] Cap continues to beat the Punisher mercilessly, begging Castle to fight back. But Frank refuses to.
536.060
[Pg. 8] Spider-Man grabs Captain America's shoulder in an attempt to calm him down. It was clear that Frank Castle was not going to fight back, instead he just took an intense beating from Cap.
536.070
[Pg. 13] The other heroes, including Spider-Man, look on as Cap leaves the Punisher beaten and bloodied on the ground. When Patriot asks why Punisher didn't fight back, Spider-Man answers that Cap was probably the reason Castle fought in Vietnam.
536.080
[Pg. 11] Spider-Man helps the Punisher off the ground. Cap and Castle then go there separate ways (literally and philosophically).
536.090
[Pgs. 7 - 11] Cont. "The War at Home" (Part 5) Peter Parker returns to MJ and Aunt May for the first time since he'd escaped from Avengers Tower. He checks in on them to make sure they are ok, MJ and Aunt May had been on the run as well during this time. They're hiding out in an abandoned building to stay off the radar.

When Iron Man reaches out to Captain America for a private in-person conversation, they meet up at Yankee Stadium. Stark asks Cap if he, or anyone working with him, was responsible for what happened to Happy Hogan (he was nearly killed by the Spymaster). Cap gives a definitive 'no.' Suddenly, Spider-Man, Luke Cage and other allies of Cap jump out of the woodwork and attack Iron Man. Stark has no trouble at all defeating all of Cap's allies. Interestingly, Stark had used the tech in the Iron Spider suit to design attacks his suit could use to defeat Spider-Man. Namely, he was able to manipulate Spidey's Spider-sense in such a way that it creates false-positives for Spidey to incorrectly react to. Stark tells the defeated Spider-Man that he is a man of his word and agreed to a parlay with Cap, so he does not bring Spider-Man into custody.

[Pgs. 15 - 23] Conclusion to "The War at Home" (Part 5) Spider-Man goes on TV and tells the world that he was wrong for siding for the pro-registration forces. He attacks their use of the Negative Zone as a prison and suggests their tactics undermine the very fabric of American values. Iron Man becomes determined to bring Spider-Man to justice.
536.400
Spider-Man makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this story when he witnesses Moon Knight killing two criminals. Spidey screams at him to stop, and even shoots a web-line to grab the piece of wood Moon Knight was using to maim the criminal. Spector does not listen, instead he fires one of his moon-stars at Spider-Man. Moon Knight then gets into his limo and leaves. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story. *Note This entry was moved down the chronology from MCP's placement (which was in between Civil War #3). However, in Moon Knight (Vol. 5) #7, Spider-Man is no longer wearing the Iron Spider costume and the banner for the story is "Casualties of War" which places this story toward the conclusion of Civil War, not the middle of it.

[Pgs. 1 - 2] "The War at Home" (Part 7) A sniper's crosshairs zeroes in on MJ inside the hotel room she is currently hiding out in while she talks to Peter on the phone. Peter warns her that things could get very bad for him soon.
538.520
[Pgs. 16 - 22] Spider-Man, alongside the rest of Captain America's crew, prepare to infiltrate the pro-registration captivity center...the Negative Zone. When they arrive, Spider-Man's Spider-sense goes berserk. As Spider-Man leads them slowly through the Ryker's Island corridors, they find themselves face to face with Iron Man and his forces. It was a trap!
538.540
[Pgs. 1 - 3] An all-out slug fest results as Cap's anti-registration forces battle Iron Man's pro-registration heroes (and villains!)
538.560
[Pg. 3] This single panel splash page depicts the battle from a slightly different perspective. Spider-Man is shown attacking Venom in this sequence.
538.580
[Pg. 4 - Page 6 panel 1] As the battle rages on, T'Challa and Dagger help Cloak coordinate a massive teleportation. This brings all the combatants from Ryker's Island to the streets of New York City.
538.600
[Pgs. 5 - 6] This scene depicts the teleportation by Cloak from a slightly different perspective. Spider-Man and the other heroes are depicted as falling from the sky down to the streets below.
538.620
[Pg. 6 panel 2 - Pg. 12 panel 1] A bloody battle rages in the streets of New York as the former allies and heroes attack each other.
538.640

538.660
[Pg. 10 panel 1] This single panel non-speaking cameo depicts Spider-Man and the other heroes fighting in the streets.
538.680
[Pgs. 2 - 3] This flashback sequence takes place right in the middle of the giant battle that occurred at the beginning of Civil War #7. During this sequence, whilst battling She-Hulk, Spider-Man sees the original Captain Marvel (aka the presumed dead Mar-Vell). Spidey then goes after Iron Man, assuming that he's behind yet another clone of a deceased hero (like they had with Thor earlier in Civil War). Stark blasts Spider-Man with his repulsor lasers, claiming the web-slinger has no idea what he's talking about. Iron Man and Cap then prepare to square off in combat.
538.700
[Pgs. 5 - 8] Cont. "The War at Home" (Part 7) Spider-Man, and the rest of the world, watches as Captain America and Iron Man battle it out. Cap takes the upper hand initially.
538.720
[Pg. 17 - Page 22 panel 3] Disillusioned with the damage, destruction and chaos his war has waged, Captain America surrenders to the authorities. Spider-Man encourages him to keep fighting because they're winning, but Rogers has had enough of the fighting.
538.800
After the Stilt-Man is killed by the Punisher, a group of B-List villains gather to mourn the loss of one of their own. Their mourning turns into a bar room brawl in which Spider-Man arrives and scolds them for fighting at the Stilt-Man's wake. He then sends Prowler and Puma home before web-swinging out of there. Soon after, the Punisher blows up the bar with all the villains still inside.
538.900
[Pgs. 9 - 23] Conclusion to "The War at Home" (Part 7) Aunt May is shot by the sniper outside her hotel room. The shot was ordered by the Kingpin. This sequence leads directly into the "Back in Black" story arc. *Note There are panels and sequences from Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #24 that overlap with some of the portions of this sequence. They depict Spider-Man in the astral plane rewatching these events.
539.000
[Pg. 16 panel 2 - End of page 17] This sequence depicts Spider-Man in the astral plane, rewatching the shooting of his Aunt May. We see Peter (and future astral plane-Spider-Man) scream, "NOOOO!!" and then Aunt May falling to floor of the hotel room.

A few days after the end of the Civil War, Ben Urich and Sally Floyd interview Spider-Man as a part of representing both sides of the registration argument. Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo in the panel that depicts this scene.
542.540
[Pg. 22 panel 4 - End of page 28] Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo in the days that follow the Superhuman Civil War. In this panel, Luke Cage comments on how he likes Spider-Man in his black costume. Spider-Man is not seen again in the remainder of the story.
542.560
Spider-Man joins a handful of his fellow heroes to play poker not long after the death of Captain America. The initial guest list includes Spider-Woman, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Thing. Spider-Man tries to get the group to discuss Cap's death, but they're clearly trying to escape into the game and not worry about the stress of Cap's passing. When Wolverine arrives and tries to take the chair set aside for Cap and also make an insensitive comment about Cap being dead, Spider-Man flips out and attacks Wolverine. The Thing manages to calm everyone down, Spider-Man ultimately decides to go home early. Clearly all the heroes are upset about Cap's loss.
542.580
Still struggling to get over the loss of Captain America, Spider-Man goes to Uncle Ben's gravesite to find strength. His Spider-sense suddenly alerts him to the presence of the Rhino and after a tussle leads to Rhino's mother's tombstone being destroyed, Rhino goes on a rampage. The scene reminds Spider-Man of one of his first encounters with Captain America. After defeating the Rhino, Wolverine approaches and wants to talk with Spider-Man, but Spidey blows him off (still mad from the scene at the poker night). A short time later, Spider-Man is on the Brooklyn Bridge, once again looking for strength. Wolverine comes by a second time and they chat about loss. Ultimately they both hope that time will help heal these wounds. It's certainly worth noting that Uncle Ben and Rhino's mom are buried in the same cemetery.
542.600
Spider-Man, alongside Wolverine, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Spider-Woman and Dr. Strange, watch the funeral ceremony for Captain America. They do not attend the ceremony, despite Spider-Man wishing they had, because they were concerned they would be arrested on the spot for their anti-registration status. *Note Spider-Man makes a single page appearance in this story.
542.620
Sam Wilson visits Spider-Man, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Spider-Woman and a handful of the other New Avengers as they celebrate their 'secret' wake for Captain America. The heroes discuss the circumstances around Cap's death, the weird reality of Sam being on the pro-registration side (which he had to do to attend the funeral), and then they all raise a glass in honor of Cap.
542.640
Spider-Man makes a single panel cameo at the Sanctum Sanctorum alongside Dr. Strange as demons and winged beasts tear through New York City. Spider-Man makes a sarcastic remark about how this can't be a good thing. Dr. Strange confirms that their dimension is merging with another. Unbeknownst to Spidey (and perhaps Dr. Strange), this is the work of the demon lord Belasco. Spider-Man is not seen again in the story.

While web-swinging through the city, Spider-Man spots the villain Fracture (a man with the power to destroy a building by touching it, thus making it 'fracture'). When Spidey runs into a bit of trouble corralling him, Blade arrives and pumps him full of tranquilizers. The two heroes then catch up (they had a recent run-in in which Spider-Man was turned into a vampire and Blade shot up his kneecaps). Spider-Man recalls the events of that night in which he was tracking a 'cloaked' individual. This 'cloaked' individual rendezvoused with Dracula (then turned Spider-Man into a vampire). Spider-Man tells Blade the name of the 'cloaked' individual...Jamal Afari. Afari is the man who raised Blade and taught him how to hunt vampires.
543.020
While patrolling the city, Spider-Man comes across half of the Sinister Syndicate (Boomerang, Shocker and Hydro-Man). While he's battling it out with the three villains, Spider-Man is attacked by War Machine and Komodo (who work for the Initiative). They're working to bring Spider-Man in, since he's not a registered hero. Their attack frustrates Spider-Man because it enables Boomerang and the other to escape (or so he thinks). When Komodo nearly injects Spider-Man with the power-inhibitors, the web-slinger gets in her head and psyches her out (suggesting she can't hang with the big boys). The pause enables Spider-Man to kick her off of him and escape. He tells War Machine to pass on his lack of love for Stark too. Across town, the Scarlet Spiders take down Boomerang, Shocker and Hydro-Man.
543.030
[Pg. 11 - Page 13 panel 1] Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo during a discussion between James Rhodes (aka War Machine) and Tony Stark. Rhodes tells Tony that the members of the Initiative are not enough to take on the Hulk (who was on his way back to Earth seeking revenge). Tony responds that Dr. Strange is already out there recruiting all the super heroes to the cause (of fighting Hulk); Spider-Man is one of those heroes Strange reaches out to. Tony hopes this cause will reunite the recently torn bonds caused by the Superhuman Civil War.
543.040
[Pg. 1 - Page 30 panel 3] When the Hulk returns to Earth with a massive vendetta against the men who expelled him off the planet (ie, Reed Richards, Iron Man, Black Bolt and Dr. Strange), the world was forced to prepare for an attack quickly. Spider-Man is one of the heroes, alongside She-Hulk, who helps to evacuate the greater metropolitan area. Spider-Man tries to inspire confidence in the crowd by telling them that the Sentry is on the way (when he sees a flash of light heading toward them). However, that turned out to be Iron Man in his Hulk Buster armor, not Sentry. In his Hulk Buster armor, Iron Man attacks the Hulk head-on above the streets of New York.
543.050
Spider-Man makes a single panel appearance in this story that takes place during the events of World War Hulk #1. When Iron Man, in his Hulk Buster armor, attacks the Hulk, the two tangle in the skies above New York City. During the fight, Iron Man tells the Hulk that, "someone once told me that with great power comes great responsibility." Spidey, who is now also in the skies above remarks, "Well, whaddaya know. He was listening." Spider-Man is not seen again in the story, at some point he returns to the streets below.
543.060
[Pg. 30 panel 4 - End of page 42] Iron Man's injections, missile blasts and all other assaults on to the raging Hulk ultimately do nothing to stop the angry beast. The Hulk then launches Iron Man into the Avengers tower, and begins smashing him so hard that the entire building begins to collapse. Spider-Man and the other heroes look on in shock and awe at the destructive power of the Hulk. When the building tumbles to the ground, Spidey and the other heroes run toward the building to help survivors. They find the massive Hulk waiting for them when they reach the rubble.
543.065
[Pgs. 1 - 6] With the Avengers Tower in rubble, the Hulk's Warbound (Hiroim, Korg, Elloe Kaifi, Miek and No Name of the Brood) arrive as well. They claim to stand with the Hulk. Spider-Man and the other heroes brace for battle.
543.070
[Pgs. 2 - 3] Spider-Man makes a single (splash) page appearance in this flashback which depicts the Hulk standing victorious over Blackbolt, Reed Richards, Tony Stark and Dr. Strange while Spider-Man and the other heroes look on and prepare to attack. *Note This flashback is more metaphorical than literally accurate because it contains some discontinuity. For instance, Spider-Man was already engaged in battle, and pretty much defeated, before Reed Richards even arrived. This depicts that occurring in the reverse order. Nevertheless including this for completeness sake.
543.075
[Pgs. 7 - 13] Spider-Man and the other heroes attack the Warbound and all-out battle between the two sides breaks out on the streets of New York. Spider-Man, and the rest of the heroes, are defeated by the Warbound (however, that is shown off-panel).
543.080
[Pg. 11] Spider-Man makes a single (splash) page appearance lying defeated in the rubble, alongside other heroes, after their battle with the Warbound. The Hulk stands victorious above him.
543.090
[Pgs. 18 - 22] Spider-Man makes a non-speaking cameo as one of the many super heroes who were defeated by the Hulk and his Warbound. Spider-Man is depicted as being on the ground unconscious like the others.
543.100
[Pgs. 14 - 38] After the Thing is defeated (easily) by the Hulk and after Reed Richards attempts to fool the Hulk by pretending to be the Sentry, the Hulk and his Warbound carry the unconscious defeated heroes (including Spider-Man) to the prison at his new base in New York City..
543.110
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo as one of the Hulk's bound and unconscious prisoners inside his makeshift base.
543.120
Spider-Man makes two single panel non-speaking cameos where he is depicted as one of the many prisoners of the Hulk, all fitted with an 'obedience disk' that limits their ability to move and control their actions. The Hulk prepares to put his enemies in gladiatorial battle for his amusement.
543.130
The Sentry and the Hulk engage in an epic battle that ultimately leads to both of the reverting to their human form. Spider-Man is there to witness the battle and is freed from capture during the process.
543.140
Spider-Man makes a single panel non-speaking cameo amongst numerous other super heroes who were gathered to help restore the city after the damage caused during World War Hulk.
543.150
Spider-Man makes a handful of non-speaking cameos during this sequence. First when the new Thunderbolts (Venom, Radioactive Man, Songbird, Moonstone and Penance) arrive and threaten to arrest every vigilante present without a registration card. Suffice to say, Spidey and the other heroes do not appreciate their presence. Eventually they leave, saying they'll be back in a few days to ensure all are registered. The heroes are then divided up into smaller groups to begin doing their cleanup work. Spider-Man is seen again at the conclusion of the story when the Chrysler Building looks to come alive!
543.160
Spider-Man is present as the Damage Control folks try to settle the Chrysler Building down (it had come alive and was very angry). It did indeed come alive and is feeling a bit angry about it inability to move around and stretch its legs (that's correct). The Chrysler Building even fights Spider-Man and the other heroes (the fight shown off panel) and they all get their butt-kicked by the building. Eventually Damage Control allows the Chrysler Building to take a vacation in LA in order to refresh and recharge.
543.170
In the aftermath of Hulk's attack on New York City during World War Hulk, Spider-Man, Luke Cage and the Thing worked to help clear the rubble and begin to repair the city. In the process of doing so, the Warbound emerged as well and claimed that they didn't want to fight the heroes. Nevertheless, a battle was waged between Spider-Man and the other heroes against the Warbound. As it turns out, the fight was meant as a distraction so that one of the Warbound (Elloe) would be able to make past Spidey and the others. Elloe was looking to broker peace between two alien races that were decimated during World War Hulk, and more specifically about a Hiveling that was killed by Humbug (who was killed by Shang Chi). Spider-Man tries to stop Elloe from escaping, but the No Name Brood prevents him from doing so. Eventually Elloe severely wounded when she tries to calm the aliens down. Meanwhile, the a giant chasm is forming in the city because of the Hulk's damage. But Hiroim, Korg and the Thing work (using Hiroim's powers) to solidify bedrock. The Warbound are able to escape in the process, which upsets Tony Stark when he confronts Grimm, Spider-Man and Cage. *Note This entry was moved after the Damage Control series (MCP list had it before the Damage Control series) because in these stories, Spider-Man and the other heroes are given their assignment on where they will do their rebuild work.

Spider-Man gets drawn into a conflict between Rhino and the Punisher after his Spider-sense alerts him to a nearby danger. Spidey saves the Rhino from a barrage of missiles that the Punisher had sent his way, and web-swings with the monstrous villain to the top of a nearby building. The Rhino then attacks Spider-Man (not very grateful!) as the Punisher makes his way to the rooftop. Spider-Man, now fighting a battle on two fronts, webs up the Punisher (to prevent him from killing) whilst still fighting the Rhino. Suddenly, Kraven the Hunter (aka Aloysha Kravinoff) fires a blow dart into Spidey's neck, debilitating him in the process. Aloysha does the same thing with Rhino, he then takes the captured beast with him, leaving Spider-Man and Castle behind. Spider-Man gives the Punisher a brief lecture about killing before he web-swings off into the city to go track down Kravinoff. *Note The idea of Aloysha capturing Rhino (and other animal-themed villains like Vulture) rings eerily similar to the 2019 Hunted storyline.

Since Peter Parker is still technically a fugitive at this point, he cannot simply check in on his Aunt May who is still unconscious in a hospital bed after being shot by a sniper. So Peter can only 'visit' his aunt by sitting outside of her hospital window using his Spider-powers to cling to the wall. Also, due to Peter's fugitive status, May is there under the 'May Morgan' and Peter overhears the staff saying how sad it is that this woman will likely die alone. Peter is filled with rage at Tony Stark (and himself!) for this predicament as he makes his way to the hospital rooftop. Once there, Peter sees a new version of the Vulturions speeding through the sky being chased by a trio of Iron Spiders. Peter decides he has to investigate this further, so he chases down the Iron Spiders (who call themselves the Scarlet Spiders and who are actually trio of clones of the Initiative member MVP). Peter is successful in bringing down one of the Scarlet Spiders, thus the remaining Scarlet Spiders are forced to split up. One goes after the three Vulturions, the other returns to help his fellow clone against Peter Parker. The Vulturions gang up on the single Scarlet Spider, beating him nearly to death. The other Scarlet Spider convinces Peter that he's allowing the bad guys to escape (he even uses Peter's commentary from Avengers The Initiative #3 against him). Peter stops his attack on the Scarlet Spider, and three of them come up with a plan to defeat the Vulturions and rescue the third Scarlet Spider. Peter remains in his civilian garb, while the two other Scarlet Spiders use the suit's tech to convert to Spider-Man's traditional blue/red and black costumes. This throws the Vulturions off, because now they're each convinced they're fighting the real Spider-Man. Peter stops the third Vulturion and nabs the brief case the Scarlet Spiders were trying to attain from the Vulturions (which contained plans to make a gamma bomb). To gain Peter's trust, the three Scarlet Spiders use their suit's tech to mimic Peter Parker and when TV reporters arrive on the scene, it looks like there are four Peter Parkers. They then state that there was originally four Scarlet Spiders, all government sponsored with high tech suits, but that the one that went rogue (ie, the Peter Parker that unmasked publicly) has been removed from the program and his suit has been confiscated. Suddenly the idea that Peter Parker is Spider-Man is thrown in to question as folks throughout the city ponder Spider-Man's true identity. Peter then hands them the briefcase and walks off into the streets with a little less tension on his shoulders from his public unmasking as Spider-Man.

Spider-Man makes an appearance alongside the other New Avengers during the brief period when Iron Fist and Spider-Woman were dating each other. Spidey and the other Avengers are sharing a meal at the Sanctum Sanctorum and they happen to overhear an argument that occurs between Spider-Woman and Iron Fist that ultimately leads to them deciding not to be together any longer. *Note Spider-Man is wearing his black costume and hanging with the New Avengers, it is very likely that this story takes place between Civil War and Secret Invasion, so its placement at this point in the chronology can work.

"One More Day" (Part 3) This story ends with Mephisto offering to spare Aunt May's life in exchange for Peter and MJ's marriage. MJ asks for more details and he tells them they have one more day to make their decision (and that they will not consciously remember doing any of this), and at the end of the 24 hours either Aunt May or their marriage will survive.

[Pgs. 24 - 28] This flashback sequence depicts Peter and MJ, now back by Aunt May's side at the ICU, witnessing Aunt May flatlining. Unable to accept her passing, Peter is able to resuscitate her with CPR. The doctors think it is a miracle that Peter's CPR seems to have worked.

[Pgs. 2 - 23] Soon after Peter saves Aunt May using CPR, the Kingpin tells an assassin to continue working through his Peter Parker hit list, the next target is Aunt Anna. MJ is able to thwart that attack (barely), with the help of Spider-Man. Peter, fed up with these attacks on his family then goes to Dr. Strange and requests that he help him make the world forget that he is Spider-Man (ie, the now infamous Mindwipe).

[Pg. 3 - Page 10 panel 2] Dr. Strange goes to Reed Richards and Tony Stark as they discuss the idea of erasing the world's memory that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. They ultimately agree to do so, Strange then returns from the astral plane and begins the mystical process of the 'Mindwipe.'

[Pg. 10 panel 4 - End of page 20] The original plan was for only Peter to remember the truth of what had transpired and, thus, was now being erased. Strange created a mystical shelter to protect Peter from the spell. In the last minute Peter grabs MJ and pulls her into the shelter as well, so that she will always remember what had happened as well.

[Pgs. 1 - 22] "One More Day" (Part 4) Peter and MJ finalize their deal with Mephisto, trading their marriage (and love!) for Aunt May's life. It's worth noting that MJ secretly whispered something to Mephisto and presumed 'trade' for putting Peter's life back together. It has yet to be explained what she said to him. After page 22, the infamous "Brand New Day" begins...

[Pgs. 21 - 35] This sequence is essentially identical to the events found in ASM 545 (pg 1 - 22). The only difference is that certain panels now have some dialogue added, which depict MJ and Peter discussing the fact that MJ is aware of what Peter did with the 'Mindwipe' (ie, Dr. Strange/Reed Richards/Tony Stark helping to make the world forget he was Spider-Man). MJ wishes, at the time, that she had forgotten too. Otherwise, for the most part, this sequence is identical to that in ASM 545. Thus, the "Brand New Day" begins with the conclusion of this sequence as well...
