After reviving the emaciated body of the villain known only as Gaunt, Ben Reilly's oldest friend Seward Trainer learns the identity of his employer, the mysterious Mastermind behind the entire Clone Saga, and escapes from the laboratory to warn Ben and Peter about the danger they are all in. The story cuts in and out between scenes of Trainer evading the pursuit of the now lethal Guant and Peter & Ben sorting through their memories in the attic of Aunt May's Forest Hill's home.
Meanwhile, Peter's friends begin to receive mysterious invitations to a party at the Daily Bugle, and readers are left to speculate about the Mastermind's dark plans. It ends when Trainer is cornered by Gaunt and the Mastermind, who provides the first hint of things to come by ruthlessly murdering the desperate Seward Trainer ... and setting the stage for Part Two.
A number of the scenes were overly dramatic, which took the edge of what is otherwise a spellbinding story!
Four webs. Could have been more if not for the rather over the top style.
