New Avengers (Vol. 1) #54

Background

Last issue the team were in New Orleans fighting The Hood and Madame Masque when the new Sorcerer Supreme appears, it's Brother Voodoo.

Story Details

Ten minutes ago Brother Voodoo is talking to the ghost of his brother when The Eye of Agamotto appears. It tells him that he has been chosen to become the new Sorcerer Supreme if he is willing to agree to the challenges that come with the power, Brother Voodoo agrees. Brother Voodoo sees The New Avengers fighting The Hood outside and decides to help.

Back in the present The Hood tries to take The Eye from Brother Voodoo when the team, Daimon Hellstrom and Dr. Strange attack and trap him. Dr. Strange demands the demon inside The Hood reveal himself. They discover it's Dormammu and decide to exorcise him. Parker Robbins is left burned and powerless and is taken away by the police to hospital. Daimon tells Spider-man that this is the end of days, and the only thing that was keeping the darkness back was Dr. Strange and now he's no longer The Sorcerer Supreme he hopes Brother Voodoo is up to the task.

Ronin spots a tourist with a video camera and decides to tell him what has just happened. He tells him that they have just helped Dr. Strange defeat The Hood and Madame Masque who have been arrested, but Norman Osborn will have them out of jail in no time. He also says they are The Avengers and they will fight everyday for us. Ronin then asks the tourist to pass the tape on to the news.

Later in a hospital Loki tells Parker Robbins that she has plans for him and offers him a second chance. Later still Norman Osborn is on the news responding to Clint's earlier allegations and says that Clint Barton was an Avenger and that he wants to help him, but he needs to turn himself in first. Clint tells Bobbi he thought the media would go after Osborn but he was wrong. There's only one thing to do, they're going to have to kill him.

General Comments

From this issue we have offically know that Bother Voodoo is the new Sorcerer Supreme and he faces a huge challenge in taking the mantle. I wonder if what Hellstrom says about this being the end of days will lead into a big "magic" event with Brother Voodoo leading the charge?

So The Hood is no longer with Dormammu but will be closer to Loki, I don't know what to say about this but every other book he appears in has him still with Dormammu so I'm guessing the split won't be permanent.

I like the ending of this story with Clint deciding to focus on Osborn, I know this will tie into Dark Reign: The list but surely this should be resolved in a New/Dark Avengers crossover?
