The "Vs." card system was produced by Upper Deck Entertainment from April 2004 to January 2009. It is a collectible card game for two players, set in the super-hero genre with characters and themes from both Marvel and DC.
There were 18 different sets – 10 of which featured Marvel characters. In addition, many of these sets featured fixed-content, prepackaged "starter decks".
Here at SpiderFan.Org we will cover only the "Web of Spider-Man" set (code "MSM") and the associated "Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock" Starter Deck. The starter deck was released first in June 2004, and the booster packs with additional cards were released shortly afterwards in September 2004.
The full "Web of Spider-Man" set featured 165 different cards. Every card was produced in standard and "foil" versions. Booster Packs for the set contained 14 cards per pack, with 24 packs per box. [IMAGES COMING SOON]
The "Spider-Man vs. Doc Ock" Starter Deck included 80 game cards, being two separate play decks of 40 cards each. Only two of the cards provided in the starter deck were the foil variants. The pack also included a "Basic Rulebook" and a fold-out "Quick Start Rules Seet". The card numbers and counts in the starter decks are:
