Comic Buyer's Guide began in 1971 as "The Buyer's Guide For Comics Fandom". Krause Publications purchased it from Alan Light in 1983, changing to the current title and hiring Don and Maggie Thompson as editors. The magazine began as monthly, became bi-weekly with #17, then weekly with #86, finally returning to monthly status with #1595. Don Thompson passed away in 1994. Maggie Thompson remained as CBG's senior editor. CBG ceased publication in 2013 just shy of 1700 issues.
