Background

The costumed hero called Daredevil also shows up at Peter's school - in the guise of Daredevil's alter-ego, lawyer Matt Murdock - and offers Peter an opportunity to plan the downfall of Wilson Fisk (a.k.a. the Kingpin of Crime). Since gaining his powers, Spider-Man has had several confrontations with the red-clad DD... and they are not friends.

But Peter is less a friend of the Kingpin, and is intrigued enough to follow DD to this super-hero meeting. The group - which also includes Iron Fist, Shang- Chi, Moon Knight and Dr. Strange - plans to send Mon Knight in as a new hit man for the Kingpin... and then take the organization down from inside. Unfortunately, Moon Knight suffers from a massive multiple personality disorder, and takes his role of Ronin too seriously - immediately following the Kingpin's orders to capture Spider-Man.

The Kingpin informs Peter that all the merchandising rights to Spider-Man are owned by Fisk himself. Every time Spider-Man does something heroic,... Kingpin makes money. Kingpin the subdues Ronin/Moon Knight, revealing that he is aware of the duplicity, and has stayed one step ahead of the heroes - because Matt Murdoc is on his payroll!

When Spidey is set free, he confronts the other heroes with this news... only to watch as Murdock's law office explodes in a ball of fire. Murdock wasn't the traitor - it was Iron Fist. But watching his life burn in front of him, Daredevil is pushed over the edge...

It's dark, under a bridge two men get out of a van and drag Ronin to the water. They shoot him in the head. They leave his costume on, to send a message.

Danny Rand is sitting in front of the Kingpin. It's his fault, he says to Fisk, that the heroes were pushed too far. Danny then tells what happened. The heroes are fighting. During the fight they discover why Danny sold them out. Fisk threatened to kill his daughter. The fight ends.

Back to the office. Fisk is curious, why did they not kill Danny? They gave him another chance, to distract Fisk. Stumbling noises are heard, Daredevil has entered the bedroom of Fisk's wife!

Back to the bridge, the multiply personalities make Ronin to get up. He is wounded.

Daredevil threatens to snap the neck of Fisk's wife. He says he has to kill Fisk, for he knows who Daredevil is. Spider-Man interferes. Killing Fisk will put Daredevil in the same league as Kingpin. Daredevil hesitates. Kingpin begs, it was just business. He asks, what do you want? Giving himself up won't do any good, there's no evidence. So, they tell him to leave the country.

Meanwhile, Ronin finally found a police station., he's bleeding. He identifies himself and says Wilson Fisk tried to kill me tonight.

Fisk is in the car, he is furious. He wants Murdock killed and the high school where Spider-Man is seen blown to pieces. Then the car is stopped by the police. Fisk is under arrest for attempted murder.

Later, Wilson Fisk is in jail. Bail was denied. Moon Knight is a hero, he came forward and revealed his secret identity to bring down Kingpin. Spider-Man swings across the city, the sees the Spidey merchandise and is sad.

General Comments

What can I say? I have nothing to say other than that I found this to be a very unbalanced issue. Several revelations, several action scenes, several plotlines solved. All in one issue! As if the story had to end in this particular issue and couldn't drip over into the next one.

Also, the Kingpin is in jail. Yeah, right. If he's so smart, why is he in jail? I'd figure he has the best lawyers in town, perhaps the country. And still they deny him bail. Kingpin, who was one step ahead all the way. Nah, I don't buy it, this one was rushed. O lot happened that we did not see.... my question is, what?

Overall Rating

Yep, only 3 webs. Fun story, not much fighting action, but a lot of talk action, if you know what I mean. To me, it felt like the issue was rushed. Which could earn you bonus webs, for with the current decompressed stories, that's very hard to do, But in this case, no, it does not help in get a high rate.
