Aunt May Parker is dead. In the beautifully-written Amazing Spider-Man #400, she revealed to Peter she knew he was Spider-Man and died in her bed. Shortly after, Peter was arrested by Detective Raven from Utah for first-degree murder. Raven was recently attacked by Kaine, however and now knows it is Kaine - not Peter - responsible for the crimes. He has no idea who Kaine is, though. Jonah is paying Peter's legal fees anonymously. Meanwhile, MJ is pregnant, Ben Reilly has been trying to get her to trust him and a third 'Peter' is on the loose. The first Peter thinks Ben could be responsible for the murders he has been imprisoned for. All the while, the mysterious figures of Kaine, Scrier and Judas Traveller watch on.

Peter is being taken to the court amid mass mayhem. MJ and Ben are with Seward Trainer and he is doing tests on her unborn baby as the doctors told her there is an anomaly with her pregnancy. Kaine watches on. Elsewhere, the third Peter visits May's home and wonders what happened to his life.
At the Bugle Jonah tells Robbie not to run any story concerning Peter's trial. Jonah says it cuts too close to home and he wouldn't be able to be objective over it. Elsewhere, as MJ is walking home, she is accosted by Kaine. She manages to escape but runs straight into (the third) Peter.
I like Jonah's reaction to Peter here. Perhaps he's not so bad after all! Other than that, not an awful lot happens but then I guess there's four more parts to fill, so what more could we want?
