Background

The year is 2099, and the price is US$5.95. Let's divide one by the other and see what the remainder is. Actually, when you throw Peter David into the equation, it just might add up to a great book.

I must admit I was a little wary when I first heard they were going to do the long-overdue Spider-Man 1995/2099 teamup. I was a helluva lot more wary when I saw the price. "Oh No" I thought - "Another Glossy Overpriced Team-Up One-Shot Ripoff."

Story Details

Spidey and Miguel swap places for reasons to be explained later. Miguel swings around in awe through the time-period which is so adored in the future. Peter swings around in horror at the 2099 world. Miguel kicks Venom's butt, while Peter does the same to Vulture 2099.

On a more sinister level, it seems that 1995 is the point at which the Age of Marvels was destroyed and the 2099 world becomes inevitable. Spider-Man and Spidey 2099 get together and are thrown into the future where they Meet Spider-Man 2211, as well as Green Goblin 2211 who is the architect of the whole evil plan.

I must say that you'll probably only get most of this if you've read some 2099 books - but if you are familiar with both Spider-Men then you'll get a real blast from the tale. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the wide-screen full-colour panoramic tale from a writer who knows the right way to deal with 44 glossy pages.

General Comments

The tale is slightly frivolous and wonderfully irreverent. It's packed with the wit and originality that is one of the hallmarks of the masterful Peter David.
