Spider-Man Sticker Storybook: The Super Spider (Alligator)

Background

This sticker book is essentially a reprinting of Spider-Man: The Super Spider, a story which I really didn't really enjoy when I first read it. It hasn't improved at all in being repackaged into a book of almost twice the height - 8.25" x 11.75" with a soft card cover.

This publication by Alligator books is almost certainly a UK-specific publication which you won't find in the U.S. The cover price is four pounds UK, though I purchased it for three pounds in a remaindered book discounter.

Story Details

The story is unchanged, Peter is the only student in a class where his deranged teacher consumes a potion and becomes a giant spider. Spider-Man beats her up and calls the police.

General Comments

How anybody thought this was a good story in the first place is totally beyond me. I guess kids just enjoy reading about conflict, without any sort of analysis of what the underlying message might be. But it's sure not a story that I would buy for any young child, or recommend to any caring parent.

This sticker book format has enlarged the artwork to fill the page, which is full color on good clean white paper. A centerfold of 25 stickers has been included, featuring images from the story, but there's nowhere in the actual book to stick them. The stickers claim to be "re-usable" but I haven't put that to the test.

Overall Rating

I gave the original story two webs. The stickers are high quality and are worth an extra web, but that's still not a great recommendation.
