After being shot Mockingbird was given a mixture of the Super solder serum that created Captain America, and the Infinity formula that gives Nick Fury his increased vitality. Also the team are having trouble trusting their S.H.I.E.L.D. liaison, former H.A.M.M.E.R. agent Victoria Hand. Whose side is she on?
During Marvels Fear itself event, the Red Skull’s daughter Sin has released Odin’s bother The Serpent from his prison. Using his vast power and her own Nazi army they have attacked New York.

Mockingbird is being interviewed about what happened in New York. Mockingbird tells the interviewer that she’s used to working in the shadows and rarely does interviews but that’s about to change. She tells them about the shooting and the serum she’s taken. She has a second chance and she will make the rest of her life count for something.
In the mansion the team are meeting and Spider-Man again quits the team. He doesn’t trust Hand. Hand tells him she risked her life to help them and reminds him of his own questionable past. As Spidey’s about to leave Mockingbird walks in, fully healed from the shooting. Everyone welcomes her back, and Wolverine and Cage speak to Spidey while Hand looks on. Back to Mockingbirds interview and she talks about the serum, what it can do and how she needed to test what it can do.
Next we see Sin’s army attacking New York. The team are trying to help when Mockingbird tries her new powers for the first time. She is now stronger and more agile. Using her abilities she is able to capture one of Sin’s mechs and uses it to destroy several other mechs. After the fight Mockingbird sees Avengers Tower collapse. During her interview Mockingbird talks about how that moment sobered her up, she’s been given a second chance and she was going to use this to kill Sin.
Strong opening issue for The New Avengers Fear itself tie in. Again Deodato's art is great and the story flows well. Although Spidey trying to quit the team is becoming a cliche it works well in the story. Also the cover was misleading as Angir: Breaker of Souls A.K.A. the worthy Thing does not appear. Also I can see what they tried to do with The Avengers Tower collapsing but with this happening already in World War Hulk it does not have have the impact it should have.
Solid 3 webs. I am looking forward to The Thing dealing with the aftermath of Fear itself which should be addressed in The New Avengers and not in The FF.
