The story starts during the tyrannosaurus attack, Spider-man is thrown into the jungle when he's confronted by Ka-zar, Shanna and some savage land locals. Spider-man thinks they are skrulls and they think he's a skrull too. Spidey asks what happened...
Months ago Ka-zar and Shanna discovered several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents poaching vibranium and using the savage land people to do it, after one of the locals is executed by a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Shanna kills one of the agents who reverts back to her skrull form, Shanna decides to steal the skrulls' uniform and sneak into the base. One of the agents reveals they have an agent in the New Avengers when Shanna is discovered. Shanna tries to escape when she is pinned down by several agents, just as they are about to kill her Zabu and Ka-zar save her and they escape into the jungle.
Later Ka-zar decides to contact Nick Fury to see what's going on when Shanna tells him the skrulls' have their people everywhere. They decide to attack the skrulls when from afar they see the New Avengers attack the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. When suddenly several missiles are launched from a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. The New Avengers are saved by Iron Mans' force field.
Back in the present Spidey tells Ka-zar he was there that day and they never got to the bottom of why S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were mining vibranium. Spidey thinks Ka-zar is lying when suddenly the Captain America from the crashed ship appears...
Ok we now have some answers to the questions raised during the first New Avengers story arc, so thats a good start. No big skrull reveals in this issue but we do have some answers so I'm happy.
The art by Billy Tan is great and has a lot of detail especially the chainmail on Captain Americas costume, and as usual Bendis' writing brings the goodness.
Some answers given, no big skrull reveals and a decent cliffhanger make this a solid 3 webs book.
I'd like to welcome Billy Tan as the new regular New Avengers artist. I hope he sticks around for a while.
