Background

Super-Super-Force-of-Evil "The Fury" is on the rampage. The heroes of Earth face inevitable destruction. The only thing that can save them is... the Ultimate Nullifier. Which we already know that Silver Surfer and Captain Britain have managed to borrow from Galactus. So whatever happens, they'll be able to fix things up again when they arrive.

Hmm... that does kind of takes the edge off the tension, as we head into this fourth and final part of the tale.

Uatu the watcher observes as The Fury arrives in our dimension, then proceeds to tear his way through pack after pack of earth's super heroes and villains. Spider-Man makes a cameo with a great one liner.

Spidey (to Wolverine): "Oh man, I thought you said Furby!"

That's pretty much the high point of the story. The next half a dozen pages is just a series of dramatic poses and dramatic death scenes. The Hulk gets nuked, along with the city he was in. Etc.

Then Captain Britain arrives with the Ultimate Nullifier and prepares to use it. Dr. Strange insists that all the remaining heroes need to help him control it, and they are all linked with magic and telepathy. The Nullifier is activated, reality warps, and the Fury is erased from existence.

Time is reversed, the damage is undone, and Captain Britain stands alone "in the spot where it all began". It's not quite clear if that is the spot where he first met the Fury, and exactly how much of reality was unpicked. But Captain Britain is the only one who remembers what happened. To the rest of the planet, it is if the whole series of events never existed...

General Comments

...which is kind of like my feeling after reading this story. I flipped through the pages, read the words, looked at the pictures, but in the end nothing really remains. Even as I write this conclusion, I must ask myself, did this all really happen? Am I effectively the same person I was after reading as I was before? Have I learned anything? Am I enlightened, amused, or entertained?

Reluctantly, I must answer in the negative.

Overall Rating

One web for assembling a series of events involving Marvel characters, plus one web for Spider-Man's "Furby" gag. A whole web for a Furby joke? Sure, why not? After all, Kah toh-loo loo-loo.

So let me grab my calculator and... yes, that makes two webs.
