Background

Phidal Publishing produce high-quality, custom-format tie-in activity products under the Marvel license.

They're a Canadian-based company, but this "Marvel Spider-Man Stuck on Stories" product seems to have been released almost exclusively in the UK.

Story Details

"Spider-Man: Stuck On Stories" is a book-in-a-box. It's 8" x 10" on the front, and is 1.5" deep. The majority of that space is packaging for 10 "Suction Cup" plastic figures in the "box" part at the front. Behind that is the "book" component, which has 11 thick cardboard pages forming an activity and play space for the figures.

The figures are two-and-a-half dimensional. They're 3D rising out of a 2D base. Each figure is a couple of inches tall, and around half an inch deep. On the back is a rubber sucker that allows the figure to stick to windows, or glossy cardboard pages.

Interior artwork is borrowed from the Spider-Man adventures in the Marvel: Origin Story Books line of products.

General Comments

This is a nice, bright, well-made product. It's not run-of-the-mill at all. Despite borrowing existing artwork, it's clearly a custom design with original construction.

The front compartment appears to be deliberately designed as a re-usable storage space for the figures when not being used. That a feature that I love to see in products like this. It makes it great for car journeys or plane trips, and hugely extends the practical life of the product.

Overall Rating

You could pick this up for £5 at the high-street outlet stores, and I reckon that's darn good value. It's attractive, high-quality, and great value for money.

I'm giving this Four Webs.
