Doring Kindersley (aka DK Publishing) do a great job of producing quality Marvel & Spider-Man infotainment books. They do it quietly, professionally, and exceptionally well. Here's another great example.
Publisher: | DK Publishing, Inc. |
Writer: | David Fentiman, Helen Murray |
Design Assistant: | Alison Gardner, Lynne Moulding |
Designer: | Chris Savage, Rhys Thomas, Sam Bartlett |
The book is 8.5" x 11", soft cardboard cover square-bound. There are 64 pages of full-colour content, plus an additional sixteen sheets of high-quality full-colour stickers.
The book contains lots of pictures and information, but is designed to prompt you to add your own content. Here's some famous villains... now draw your own villain. Spider-Man saves the day... now write the newspaper headline. That kind of thing.
The content is inspired mostly from comics, but there's a little bit from the movies, and some original ideas as well. Villains are the classics - Venom, Ock, Goblin, Sandman, Rhino, and so on. On the hero side, the web-head gets some assistance from Spider-Woman and Iron Man. But Black Cat, Daredevil, Scarlet Spider and Spider-Girl (AraƱa) also appear.
The book is definitely up-to-date, with references to Horizon Labs, the Freedom Foundation and other recent Marvel creations.
Anything from DK is always high-quality, and this is no exception. The printing and coloring is bright and vibrant. The material is well-sourced, creatively assembled and extended with simple but well-written text.
Finally, there's plenty for your money too. Plenty of new material with no padding or duplication. The sixteen full sheets of stickers are attractive and generous in size. These guys put their competition to shame.
Well done, DK. Another interesting, fresh, original, high-quality, top-value offering.
I have to give this a near-perfect four-and-a-half webs.
