Raj Manoharan, managing editor for DirecTV: The Guide dropped me a surprise email recently. He wanted to know what the Spider-Man community at large thought of the selection of Tobey Maguire to play the part of Spider-Man.
I asked for volunteers, and Bryan Theisson stepped up to the mark...
I'm personally thrilled that Maguire's been chosen to play Spidey instead of a big-name player like Leo DiCapprio. Tobey's had enough exposure to be recognized, but hopefully not enough to make him arrogant or stubborn in portraying a cultural icon. He clearly looks the part enough to play Peter Parker, and we've seen him play the quiet, unassuming nice guy in "The Cider House Rules". I'm looking forward to seeing how he handles Spider-Man's more aggressive nature.
... and I can't say I disagree with any of that! Thanks Bryan, and Raj.
