Sometimes the webslinger catches a couple bad breaks in a row and finds himself in a pickle as he tries to protect his civilian identity. In those instances, Spider-Man fashions a mask made entirely of webbing, thus the web-mask, in order to hide his ID yet still allow him move about his fellow New Yorkers.
