It's always nice to meet an honest book. Like this one. The title proclaims itself as "Ultimate Spider-Man: The Really Big Sticker Book!"
So let's see. Artwork and content based on the Ultimate Spider-Man TV (2012) show. Sticker Book. Really Big. Well, whadd'ya know? Three out of three ain't bad, these days.
The book is "magazine size", at 8.4" x 11". It features 48 pages of color illustrations and work areas where you can place your stickers. Then the rest of the book contains 20 full-color gloss sheets of stickers.
There are two different types of activities (and corresponding types of stickers). Some activities are "guided", where the page contains specific areas where you need to find the specific matching stickers. Some of these guided areas are "sticker jigsaws", where the stickers have been sliced into 1" x 1" squares, and you need to re-assemble them to complete the indicated picture.
Other pages are free-form backgrounds — city scenes where you can create your own story by mixing heroes and villains as you wish.
The stickers are sharp and glossy, and the light-hearted "Ultimate Spider-Man" fourth-wall breaking humour pervades the material. There's no "story" here as such, these books are all about the production quality and relative price tag.
...which leads us to the down-side of this book. It packs a hefty $12.99 price tag, and that's something that really does need to be taken into context. The 20 sheets of stickers feel generous when considered in isolation. But that $13 brings it back into "probably about right for that sort of money".
So I'll give this book a "probably about right" rating of Three Webs.
