Background

This book is 8.25" x 11.75". It has a staple-bound cover with 32 interior pages. The paper stock is very thick, high quality, and the print quality is also very high with rich, vibrant colours.

Story Details

The book includes two pairs of red/blue celluloid 3D glasses, one for you and one for a friend. All of the interior artwork is 3D enhanced, so that the glasses make every page pop out before your eyes.

The content features character profiles for every hero and every villain in the Marvel Super Hero Squad universe. Even part-time member Spider-Man gets a profile page, with his usual "Spidey Lite" background - he's quick, he's smart, he has a "sixth sense". No complications about guilt, or challenges his personal life. Just... POW! ZAP! KAZAM!

At the centre of this book is a double-gatefold poster featuring the Villains on one side, and the Heroes on the other. That's 32" x 12" of 3D loving! You can't complain about that!

General Comments

The Marvel Super Hero Squad is an populist pastiche which takes a collection of relatively complex and interesting characters and turns them into nothing more than brightly-coloured spandex-clad fighters taking sides in a puerile black and white world of good and evil.

This book is quite different though. It presents the squad as brightly-coloured spandex-clad fighters taking sides in a puerile black and white world of good and evil... in 3D!

Overall Rating

As dreadful as these characters are, there's no escaping the fact that this is 32 pages of richly illustrated 3D art work for a mere £3.99.

I loathe the entire Marvel Super Hero Squad concept. But I love this book.

Three and a half webs.
