New comic book documentary to premiere in Winter 2002

NEW YORK - September 17, 2002 - Don't call them funny pages. The leading artists, writers, and visionaries of comic books have convened in an upcoming documentary to offer their perspectives on comics as a medium for sophisticated stories and artwork.

The film, "Sex, Lies, and Superheroes" features the writers and artists that have shaped the comic book characters that will be making big screen appearances in the coming years. The creative teams behind Spiderman, X-Men, The Hulk, The Mighty Thor, Sandman (and more) share their stories, secrets behind the characters, and thoughts on the future of the industry.

The film features intimate interviews with Stan Lee (MARVEL COMICS), Neil Gaiman (SANDMAN), Frank Miller (BATMAN: DARK KNIGHT), Bill Sienkewicz (ELEKTRA ASSASSIN), John Byrne (X-MEN, BATMAN), Chris Claremont (X-MEN, GEN 13), Peter David (THE HULK, SPIDERMAN), Colleen Doran (A DISTANT SOIL), Amanda Conner (BARBIE, THE PRO), Jimmy Palmiotti (STAR WARS), Jim Valentino (IMAGE COMICS), and Walter & Louise Simonson (THE MIGHTY THOR). The film is co-written by Peter Sanderson, author of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe.

"This film will appeal to the general public as well as the fans. It's a movie not just for fans, but for their sisters and girlfriends, too," says film's director Constantine Valhouli. Sex, Lies, & Superheroes is directed by award-winning filmmaker Constantine Valhouli, who has been tackling timely and relevant issues since Silicon Alley Stories (2001), a tale of the rise and fall of the dot coms in New York, and Curve (2002), a critically acclaimed documentary on plus-size modeling and fashion featuring Emme, Kathy Najimy, and dozens of models from Ford and Click. Curve has been featured in over 100 articles, including The New York Times, Elle, Glamour, MTV, The Ananda Lewis Show, and E! Entertainment.
