The Spider-Man Movie (Article By Daniel Wood)

You're probably afraid to touch a Spider-Man book these days, what with "Maximum Clonage" (and maximum headaches!). But aside from multi-multi-multi-issue crossovers featuring a hundred different versions of Spider-Man, you should have caught drift of a really cool little rumor about a Spider-Man movie. All I can say is this: That rumor ... is true.

However, this movie has been 'just around the corner' for a couple of years now, and things certainly aren't going to change. It seems as if the long-awaited Spidey movie will have to be awaited a while longer.

So why all the catches? Legal trouble. Apparently, Jim Cameron (producer of "Strange Days") is supposed to be making this Spider-Man movie, but Carolco (who brought us "Terminator" and "Terminator II" has the contract). Or so it seems. Who knows?

Meanwhile, fans are wondering who the main villain(s) are going to be. Early specualtion centred around Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus and Venom - although Venom is probably out of the question, as he'll be getting his own movie from New Line Cinema ("The Mask").

That film will be written by David S. Goyer, a screenwriter who is also working on "Ghost Rider," "Blade" and "Dr. Strange" movies, as well as a Nick Fury TV movie and the sequel to "The Crow," called "The Crow: City of Angels." Chances are the "Venom" movie will probably come out before the Spidey flic due to its lack of legal probs, but it will be totally different.

So who is going to play Spidey himself? Probably not anyone famous. Look at it this way: if you were a famous actor, would you want your face covered with a mask for half the movie.

[Editor's Note - Daniel collected a few ideas and forwarded them onto Stan, but of course this is all ancient history now, and we know that Tobey Maguire was the guy who got the job, and the movie kicked ass!]
