The "adjectiveless" Spider-Man was originally developed as a showcase for Todd McFarlane as writer/artist to strut his stuff. McFarlane remained on the title for just over a year when he left, and the title was passed on to his future co-Image founder, Erik Larsen. The title continued on as a fourth (fifth?) title staring Marvel's Arachnid hero.
