At the house, Spidey saves everyone there but the shock of Sabbath being married to Steele gives Fortune a heart attack. Later, Sable gives Spidey a dressing down for stopping Steele being shot. She tells him it was only a tranquiliser she was using. Spider-Man swings off, ready to leave her to the business of finding Steele. At the hospital, Fortune is shot shortly before Pete turns up with flowers.
It is a ruse though. Fortune wants to be able to kill Steele without getting blamed. If he is apparently dead, he can't be blamed. He and his men go after Steele, while Spidey and Sable do the same. Dominic's men find Steele first. There's a big ruck while Fortune gets his minute with Sabbath so she can explain herself.
As Fortune is captured, Sable and Spidey show up and save the day (again). Blah, blah, blah and Fortune ends up back with Sabbath.
This is the first book in quite a while that I simply lost interest in. For a start there's just too many people and things happening. Secondly, there's too many back stories and flashbacks. You never really know quite what's going on and who's with who.
Stories with the Silver Sable always seem to go down this path and, to be honest, I don't think there's one single story I've actually enjoyed when she's shown up. Perhaps the biggest appeal of the Spidey world is characters that you can root for. Sable and Fortune are just characters - and not particularly good ones. I couldn't care a jot what happens to them and, as such, have little interest in what happens here.
It just takes too much effort to get into the story and it really just isn't worth it.
