Comics : Spider-Man: Lifeline #2

Background...

A long, long time ago - a story was told of The Secret of the Petrified Tablet which possessed (some said) the power to grant immortal youth.

It was a great story, which stood along for many years. Of course, these days, we can't resist the urge to fool around with things that don't need changing. Hence the popularity of boy-band covers of previously pleasant 70's songs, and this three-part limited series from the writing talents of Mr. Nicieza.

May 2001 : SM Title : Spider-Man: Lifeline
Characters: Boomerang, Doctor Strange, Hammerhead, Lizard

Spidey and Arthur follow the trail. Doc Conners follows the formula. Dr. Strange follows the history of the tablet, down to Atlanta, home of Prince Namor.

Turns out, the potion described on the tablet doesn't give immortal life, but promotes the imbiber to their ultimate evolutionary peak cool, eh? Imagine what it would do to Jennifer Lopez?

More trail following, and everyone winds up at Hammerheads place. A fight ensues, and the one who drinks the formula is... Doc Conners! Hey, whaddya know, he turned into a super-lizard. What were the odds of that?

In General...

What poppycock! Half of it is just stolen from the original story. Most of the rest is just mindless filler. The bits that are original work are clumbsy and out-of-place. Is this the best that "Fab Nic" can do these days?

Overall Rating...

One and a half webs.
