Background...

This is a re-release of Funtastic Sticker Book, but with a movie-tie cover.

Then when movie madness hit, Funtastic re-released their latest series of Spider-Man coloring and activity books with updated "Movie" covers... featuring the new look Spidey and Green Goblin. The interior was basically untouched, although a few of the drawings were swapped around, some were replaced by blank "Draw a Picture" pages. Also, some of the text and graphics were replaced with updated "movie-style" equivalents. The Funtastic Paint With Water Book appears to have been dropped for the second run.

No Month 2002 : SM Title : Spider-Man Color/Activity Books (Funtastic)

This is a tweaked version of the original, with the new cover being the most notable change.

Sixteen pages of newspaper sheet coloring pictures, and two pages of stickers! Sadly, the pages are basically the same art that is in the coloring book... i.e. full page shots of Spidey. I kind of assumed that the sticker book pages would be backgrounds, New York skylines, etc, where you could sensibly place the stickers... but no. Seems you color the pages, and stick the stickers somewhere else altogether. Dumb!

I only have the movie-style version, and all of the stickers are movie-style. I'm 99% certain that the earlier edition had 90's style Spider-Man stickers, i.e. the entire sticker page was redone for the later edition.

In General...

The covers on the movie-look versions are all very pretty, but inside, it's just the same old sad dross. This really was a pretty cheap effort to cash in on the movie-generated hysteria. Quality and variety were both pretty far down on the list of priorities.

Overall Rating...

Disappointing really. Two webs.
