Characters: Aunt May Parker (BTS), Ben Reilly, Betty Brant, Grim Hunter, J. Jonah Jameson, Kaine, Mary Jane Watson-Parker

Scarlet drops by the Bugle looking for Ken Ellis to complain about the Scarlet Spider name. Unfortunately, being Howard Mackie writing, he comes across as a total retard for doing it in the middle of the night. Surprisingly Ellis isn't there. Jonah is though and says he'll be keeping an eye on this new hero.

At a hospital somewhere, MJ is called in for some sort of test. In a dodgy area of New York, Kaine takes out a bunch of would-be muggers. Later, Ben is sleeping a dreaming of when he was 'born', Kaine doubles over in pain. Ben calls Sweard Trainer and wonders if the degeneration has started already. Seward says he's going to come to New York.

Ben wants to clear his head so goes out swinging. He drops in on Betty, they are about to kiss when The Grim Hunter shows up. Elsewhere, at a random police precinct, Detective Raven (see SM53) has shown up still hunting his murder suspect from Utah.

The Grim Hunter thinks Scarlet is the real Spidey and the two fight. The Grim Hunter realizes this Spider is not the one he's looking for though because of the difference in fighting technique. He leaves and Scarlet follows.

In General...

I don't mean to keep picking on Mackie but his logic is just such a mess at times. Why would Ben go to find someone at work in the middle of the night?

Again not too much happens here. It's about six pages of story dragged out to fill an entire issue.
