No Month 1999 : SM Spin-Off : Spider-Girl Annual

Spider-Girl tangles with a new villain (Misery) in a real gem of a story. When teenage heart-throb Leonard Groote (think, DiCaprico with a goatee) comes to town, May Parker is there at the front of the crowd. Things go haywire when Groote's former co-star, Melissa Carsdale, crashes the party - intent in seeking revenge for having been thrust out of the limelight. Spider-Girl saves the day... doesn't she?

From then, thing turn bad, and keep on getting worse. Tragedy upon tragedy beset May Parker, until she can take no more. What's going on? Read the comic, and find out!

In General...

Good annuals are hard to find. I reckon that an story for an annual, with its extra length, is a very different beast from a one-off monthly tale. This story makes the most of the extra length, and builds the pace steadly throughout the book. Sure, you'll probably guess the ending, but that doesn't matter - it's all in the telling.

Overall Rating...

Nice, nice. Four webs.
